OK- even for a New Yorker, you're rude. You could comment more politely, but I gather what you really want is an opportunity to be rude to others. So I won't bother replying to anything you post anymore. And we'll see if your "faith" in HD-DVD is justified.

Go ahead, if you wish- one more opportunity to trash someone.

Oh, sure...

Ah, yes, T2K. Same argument, same emotional response.

Be careful accusing others of ignoring facts, logic, etc. You'd best look in the mirror. Read the tenor of your own posts.

Despite all this stuff I wasn't rude at all.
There are several things we're agreeing on - rest of them was mostly empty claims and I tried to prove it. Now it'd be your turn, you can't do it, so you've been suddenly "hurt"... c'mon.

PS: I have no faith in any of these - FYI I'm a full-blown HVD fan, if you know that...

You say you talk facts. I see a lot of opinionated BS. But I don't have time to get into it.

So you don't post anything meaningful, you can't disprove anything, you just simply call others' BS? Very well versed...

PS: I'm really shocked now, you can imagine.

IMHO
THE POWERS THAT BE could build a player that plays BOTH FORMATS just like SACD + red book CD that is quite common now. This might be down the road a while BUT if the 2 formats survive I bet they WILL build it. :up

The MS Xbox360 does not have digital outputs- best is component. And the HD-DVD drive will be an external option, to be available later.

I believe you can get DVI/HDMI connectors for the 360, or maybe they are on the way, but I heard something about it.

This link was where i read about it: http://interviews.teamxbox.com/xbox/1190/Xbox-360-Interview-Todd-Holmdahl/p1/
Its an interview with: Todd Holmdahl, Corporate Vice President of the Xbox Product Group at Microsoft

I don't mind waiting.

Is this the Sony Beta forum? :D
I purchased a Toshiba DVD player for $650 right after DVD came out, it sat on the shelf for a year or so basically unused as I only had a few movies to watch. If you buy the new DVD players right away (either one), you'll most likely be stuck with obsure movies that you otherwise would not have purchased or watched. Add to that the format wars and the fact that we now get several more HD TV channels, I can't see any reason to jump into this right away.

Welcome to the forum, Dakar80125!
I know what you mean! I remember watching the same DVDs over and over because there was nothing else available! :D
However, there is a significant difference this time around. The new players are backward compatible and can be used as up-converting players for standard DVDs. There is no way my new player will be collecting dust! My current DVD player will! ;)

My current player already upconverts and looks very nice. I don't think thats a huge feature unless they do a significantly better job.

Normally I would say whichever way the industry goes, but its split. Then I would say whichever way the porn industry goes, but they seem set to support both formats. I really think its who gets to market first with a reliable and cheap player. Based on the PS3 ever sliping schedule, i think hd will be able to be about 1/2 to 2/3 its launch price by the time the PS3 hits the shelves. Unfortunately for HD-DVD the PS3 will sell far more than any consumer dvd player, although I never used my XBOX, PS2 or XBOX360 to watch movies. i figure why ruin the drive watching movies when i could burn it up doing what it's meant to do.. play games.

I believe that if the PS3 makes it out this year it will be a toss up, if not then HD will probably win no matter which standard is better..
The other possibility is the 2 will co-exist, becuase ever DVD burners these days has to support +/- because neither was a clear winner.

So after all that rambling.. I guess my point is that I have no clue..

Can we do a poll on how many people actually read a series of posts like T2k's on page 2 that takes up nearly an entire page of the thread?

Actually I do. I like to see his opinions. Some things he says are factual, but like I said earlier I see a lot of opinion and shooting down of others when he has ni f****** clue what will happen either way just as none of us know. He thinks he's doing something by dissecting everyones posts and marking it up.

It's a tie!

As of now it's a tie!

HD DVD will win! - 46 (33.82%)
Blu-ray Disc will win! - 46 (33.82%)
Both formats will coexist for a long time - 28 (20.59%)
I don't know. - 16 (11.76%)

Who really cares which format wins when its a loss to consumers? These studios have gone insane with their compy protection demands that leave many people who have only component inputs out in the cold.

both formats are useless to me, and many others.

I just have neither the time or the ego to do that. LOL

That is the most astute thing you have ever said Vurbano. Spot on. :) What did he post? I zipped past the very very long post.

I voted for the HD DVD, it is tough to fight a Microsoft backed format and more importantly, I think consumers will understand "HD" DVD more than Blu-Ray because of the HDTV and DTV push from the last 8 years. Just my two cents.

I agree with your reasoning.

However, the advantages of BD, and the Sony PS3, will win out. M$ does not always win. There is never enough capacity. Remember, it was Bill Gates who said, more or less: "Who would ever need more than 640K?"

I think it will also depend on the price of the players. It's going to be hard to sell a $999 BD player next to Toshiba's $499 HD DVD player. On the other hand, if they can come up with an entry-level BD unit at, say, $699 or less, it would be a different story.
