Ski Party 3 stars

This movie has been in the Voom catalog for a while but I see no review so here goes.
Part of the Beach Party series, this is a fairly entertaining film. Decent soundtracks, cameo with James Brown singing "I Feel Good" and guy's dressing up as women to get chicks... The movie was cropped from it's 2.35 original

Godzilla's Revenge - 3 stars: Not being very familiar with the Godzilla franchise, this movie was little like I was expecting. Basically, it's a monster movie/kids' movie. Seems to have more in common with Barney than with my idea of what a Godzilla movie is like. That being said, I did enjoy it and was quite entertained by it. It was a good monster/kids movie, with positive (arguably) messages about bravery and handling bullies. PQ and sound were crap, but I figure that to be due to the source. The music was kinda cool.

Cue 1.5 stars well this one was a sleeper for me. Did not get the meaning or the humor of it.

The Trouble with Angels 4.0 stars. This movie I have never seen before and was expecting very little from it. Well, it was a real good movie with humor and teenager girl misbehavior that at times wanted me to stop the movie. At the end, the unexpected happens and the meaning of the movie comes to light. A very simplistic movie yet with a nice family message. Good to watch with teenager girls...

Roger Dodger
3.5 stars. Interesting movie about an uncle teaching a nephew how to pick up girls. I found it to be very fascinating and funny. The language and the made up stories are worth the time. However, it was shot very dark and hard to follow it.

Night Of The Demons - 2.5 stars: Kind of an odd one. I enjoyed it, but it's all kinds of bad. The first half hour or so is just plain stupid, filled with useless scenes that add nothing and shoulda been dumped. But somewhere around the 45-minute mark it becomes sort of a so-bad-it's-good bad, and is filled with blood, gore, and nudity. The acting and writing are just plain awful, but so bad it's interesting to watch. This isn't a movie I'd ever want to re-watch, but I did enjoy the first viewing.

Suspended Animation - 2.5 stars: Coulda woulda shoulda been a really good horror, thriller, drama, mystery film. Confused? Me too! This could have been a really good movie if it didn't suffer from an identity crisis. It starts out with a screen writer being held hostage by two cannibal sisters after suffering an unfortunate snowmobile accident. Great start! It's like Misery, Dahmer and Psycho combined: what's not to love about a human head sitting on the table and jars of human organs in the pantry...to include an infamous pickled penis. However, the intended victim quickly escapes after being found by his friends and the movie wanders the rest of the way. Overall I still enjoyed this one, but it could have been much, much better.

Cyborg - 2 stars: Jean Claude van Damme. 'Nuff said? No? Okay.... if they held a convention for bad actors, all the bad actors in the world would get together and build a shrine to Jean Claude and hail him as their god -- the worstest of the worst, he who somehow carved a successful career as an actor despite having no "make-believe" skills whatsoever. It can be downright painful to watch this guy try to act. The movie? A good drinking game might be to do a shot every time someone screams or grunts or makes any sound (usually while clenching a knife in their teeth while charging at someone else clenching a knife in their teeth) that isn't actually a word. If you do this during the last, say, twenty-five minutes of this movie I can almost guarantee you a good old fashioned stomach-pumping at your local hospital. Which may be more fun than watching this movie. Actually, the movie wasn't that awful -- the pq and sound were pretty cool, and there was an awful lot of action -- cheesy-Jean-Claude-shirt-off-in-the-rain-punch-me-I-punch-you-right-back kind of action, but action nonetheless.

The Wicker Man 3.0 stars. Strange movie and a strange ending. Lots of nudity and with a defined theme. Some will like it some won't. I though it was good.

The Lair of the White Worm 2.0 stars. Not your typical monster movie but it was ok. A vampire/snake tries to make a comeback. There are some holes in the story but it passes. Hugh Grant is on this one. The sacrifice of the virgin was the most interested part but it did not take place. The HD transfer was real good.

American Gothic 3.0 stars. An intriguing movie about a few find themselves stranded in an island with a crazy family. The big surprise was the crazy family found someone that was crazier than them.

Blue In The Face - 1.5 stars: Apparently a Harvey Keitel project, it just seems a little beneath him. A good scene early on involving a purse snatching, but it pretty much goes downhill -- or at best, nowhere -- from there. Lots of familiar faces in supporting roles, but a lot of them (Roseanne Barr) are faces I'd rather forget. Dialog is uncomfortably awkward at times. The movie just didn't really hold my attention. Took two tries to get through the whole thing.

Squirm - 2 stars: Worms Gone Wild! Run for your lives!
Or at least walk briskly to escape the electrified killer attack worms who are coming to get you verrrry....slowwww...lyyyy.....
This is a pretty stupid movie, but I have a bit of a soft spot for these killer creature movies. But worms? Come on. PQ was alright, but the sound was uninspired. The story was...oh, hell it's about killer worms -- whaddya expect? That's about what'cha get.

Teachers 3.5 stars. I have seen this one before and the message is very good. Nick Nolte among other actors performed very well. Some of the problems in the school system were exaggerated if you compare to the school system today.

Elena and her men 1.0 star. The only good thing about this movie is that it is an excellent HD transfer with an aspect ration of 1:33:1. The details are excellent. The story is very weak.

Mad Monster Party 4.0 stars. What a real, creative movie. I did not think I was going to enjoy it so much but I did. Francesca is a real character and the zombies makes you laugh. Great, great movie.

The Chipmunk Adventure - 3 stars: Nothing special, but the kids might enjoy it. The sound surprised me. Alvin and the boys in 5.1 kinda rock. I also thought the villains were really well done for a kids flick.

Howling V: The Rebirth - 3 stars: A bit of a pleasant surprise. I thought it was just gonna be one of those movies where you put a bunch of strangers in a strange place, toss in a monster and see what kinda hell breaks loose. Actually, it pretty much is one of those movies -- but it's still fun to watch! They just did it pretty darned well. The castle looked cool, the surround sound was very good, they didn't overdo it with the werewolf (loved the little werewolf theme music deal they played after each appearance!). And despite a spoiler in the PG's description of the movie (WTF?!? -- it actually tells how all the "strangers" are actually connected, which is supposed to be a bit of a mystery during the movie), the story isn't too bad.

An American Werewolf In London - 4 stars: Great movie. They did everything just about right. A sense of humor without being silly, a badass werewolf without overdoing it. At its core, just a really good story that feels real despite being, well...about a werewolf. Probably the best werewolf movie ever, it gets a solid HD treatment here. Great soundtrack , too -- with Bad Moon Rising, Moondance, and a couple different Blue Moons. Nice touch.

Mad Monster Party - 3 stars: Sorta the original Monsters, Inc. Dr Frankenstein decides to retire and turn over the secrets of Monsters Incorporated to his nephew Felix. The doctor's assistant (the red-hot Francesca -- one good looking stop-motion puppet!) and various classic monsters plot to get the secrets for themselves and a good time is had by all. The one thing that detracted from my enjoyment of this movie was Phyllis Diller. While certainly one of the scariest monsters ever, a little bit of Diller goes a long way -- and this movie had a lot more than just a little Diller. Lose her character and all her stupid jokes and hideously annoying fake laugh, and this becomes a much better movie in my opinion.

Hard Times 3.0 stars. Charles Bronson and James Coburn both very young played on this one. It is a simple story about fighting for money.

American Gothic - 3.5 stars: Cool. The "feel-good" movie of the season. No? How 'bout the "feel-disturbed" movie of the season? Perhaps the "wtf?!?" movie of the season? This is an odd one, with a few fascinating characters that don't exactly follow the horror-film-by-numbers formula that I found myself expecting. Several mild surprises keep this movie interesting. Looked okay, and had a pretty good surround sound.

The Last Waltz 4.0 stars this is an excellent documentary with DD5.1 music. Excellent!

Blindside 3.0 stars. A retired behavioral scientist is faced with plan that will eliminate him. He falls for the wrong woman and then finds the betrayal. Did not like it very much but it had a nice plot.

short eyes 2.0 stars very strange movie about a prisoner who everybody thinks is falsely accused but in fact he was guilty. He gets what he deselves but only one person knows about it.

Element of Crime 0.5 stars pretty much gave up on it. The movie was filmed in two colors black (night) and red. I need colors. I did not get into the plot as I saw that the way it was filmed did not interest me at all.

Blue in the Face 1.0 stars more like a documentary about Brookly and stereotypes about NY. Not much of a movie.

Carrie - 4.5 stars: How did I manage not to see this movie until now? Excellent. Deliciously creepy. One of the best scenes ever -- the Prom scene, of course. Great performance by Sissy Spacek. Just a great movie.

Delicatessen - 3.5 stars: French flick, very odd, but the cinematography was very well done. The director, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, got the idea for a cannibal butcher when living in an apartment above a butcher's shop. Each morning at 7am he would hear the metallic clash of knives. His girlfriend said he was carving up the neighbors, and it would be their turn next week. Needless to say this film deals with a landlord (Jean-Claude Dreyfus) who butchers his newly hired handymen and feeds them to his tenants. However, a relationship evolves between a new handyman (ex-clown) and Julie the landlords daughter (Marie-Laure Dougnac) as she fights to save her love from becoming dinner; the pair create beautiful music together and some of the scenes are quite funny.

All Quite on the Western Front - 3.5 stars: Very good movie! Johnboy Walton (Richard Thomas) stars as a young German soldier who, along with his classmates, goes off to fight for Germany in World War I. It doesn't take long to realizes that war isn't quite the adventure they had expected. This movie does a very good job at portraying both the physical and mental affects of war. Good ending!
