If we could get a PHP script written (or maybe one exists already) that will interface with a mySQL database we could easily host something like that here.

You can make a really small fortune, selling you Coolsat on EBay. But! Australians seems to receive FTA Sat services in K-band, some free and some on sub. Broadcast is done via local Optus Satellite Network. You may still be better off moving to West Europe, if you are determined to abandon your lovelyTexas.

Germany, in particular, receives in excess of 100 digital TV channels free to air, including MTV (which remains encrypted for much of Europe). Thank you... Well, the thing is, my fiancé lives in Brisbane. So I guess that is where we'll be living. Europe, maybe one day. If nothing else I would love to take a European tour someday. My mom goes every year. I would like to go at least once in my lifetime.
But, Brisbane is my destination. Getting out of Texas? It can't happen too soon as far as I'm concerned. We'll be in an apartment so I'm not very hopeful about being able to put up a dish. I would prefer a house in the burbs but that's pretty unlikely. I'm afraid that at best we'll have cable. I'm not a fan of cable tv at all.
It's highly over priced and the picture quality is terrible. And to be totally honest, there's just nothing worth watching on it. At least Time Warner in SE Texas. I don't know about down under just yet. I'm just wondering if I should consider taking anything with me or leave it behind and buy all new, provided we get into a place where we can put one up.
I'm really bummed out about having to leave behind my fancy new hdtv I just bought.

In the early 70’s I was on an operation called Kangaroo 2 when I was in the Marine Corps, I spent 2 weeks in the out back and a week in Brisbane. Brisbane was a very beautiful city and the people were friendly and some of the nicest I have ever met. Granted things could have changed in the years that have gone by but I think you will enjoy Brisbane and all of Australia. It will defiantly be a change for you but I think you will be happy. Well, I learned some more about tv down under. I knew it was different but I couldn't put my finger on it. They use something called PAL. And they run everything on 240 volts. Apparently it's not compatible with US stuff.

I wonder if you have to have a TV license down there like in England.
There's going to have to be TWO TV's in the home because he's a sports fan. When he wants to watch that BS, I'm gone. Off to another room or out shopping.
I am not sure what you enjoy watching on television but I imagine you will find Australian tv pretty much like the US shows. Not that some are not entertaining, especially after you have been there awhile.
I have spent a fair amount of time in Singapore, Hong Kong and the Philippines the last ten years so I caught a few of the Australian programs offered in those counties. I have also researched fta a lot for the region as we have a house in the Philippines, but so far I have seen some enticing options but nothing that is compelling enough to set up a system. You might want to check out lyngsat for reported fta offered by Australia (some beams from Asia might also be hitting Down Under so might check out all the sats for Asia and the Pacific. But be warned the countries are so far apart you will find a fair amount of the offerings are beamed to a particular country or region.
Now to really get off topic, if time and the pocket book allows, I would suggest you and your new husband travel as much as possible. Some really great places to visits in Asia and the Pacific. One suggestion, if you want to see Europe then get a dose by going to Macua for a few days. The casinoes there get a lot of pub but it was established by the Portugese so if you get away from the casinoes, there are places where you would swear you are in Europe due to the architecture, etc. It is only about an hour by ferry from Hong Kong but a completely different setting. One of my favorite places to have ever visited. But it is not the only interesting place. If given a choice (i.e., enough money) I would live in Singapore. Plus the Philippines has lots of beautiful scenery and beaches.
Anyway, I could go on for awhile but it is way off topic, so congratulations to you and your fiancee and good luck on your move.
