Exactly, so why do you get "personally insulted" (your words, in another thread) and belittle others when someone points out the shortcomings of the newer technology over the older technology for how they use it?

How about a new Hopper that lets you record on Hopper 2 when Hopper 1 tuners are full? And 4X. And the multiple slow speeds that the previous Hoppers had? And a red recording light?

I have my 211k. A great little receiver that has no fees, has the DVR option (2tb) and the OTA tuner. What other Dish receiver offers that and I could just buy one a plug and play? I do not care to use a receiver that does not offer those options.
Also with the OTA tuner, Dish also offers the guide on many channels. With the 211k and the OTA option, the receiver become dual tuner. A lot of great features for a low price. Maybe I should buy a back up incase I can no longer get one if mine dies/

As already pointed out, you don't know what you're talking about in this arena. The (Rovi) guide data is NOT who is actually doing the finding/sorting of data from the end user's (receiver's) end...IT'S THE DAMN RECEIVER SOFTWARE THAT DOES! The software in this POS is SO poor now, I've had several instances where I CAN see shows listed in the EPG...but any attempt to have the Ho find (all) instances of that same show, & it can't even find the one THAT I ORIGINALLY LOOKED UP - how f'ed up is THAT!
But yet my Tivo Roamio's...that BTW use the SAME, guide provider...have NO problems finding these same shows reliably & lightning fast to boot.

Lighten up Francis. The insulted part was referring to the way he coming on here slamming the service, it was pretty out of line, when there are people who come here for information. Bring up problems, sure, but the way it was posted was definitely insulting. It had zero to do with technology.Of course NOT...

Second, and you're right, I don't know exactly how it works but I DO know the Search problems and the EPG problems seemed to start about the same time and how do they not go together? Isn't the Search part of the EPG? So what, I should burn in hell because I'm not the expert guru on the EPG?? Again, lighten up.
Third, some of the problems I see on here are from people who are either a, what I believe is taxing the system by wanting to record PTAT PLUS OTA locals and use every tuner at the same time to do multiple things
Fourth, I suspect that the number of people who use EHD's and OTA's are a very small fraction of the people who have Hoppers. Not that they should be ignored but I doubt Dish is making it a priority (Although, tbh, I want to go to OTA for locals and these problems are definitely stopping me from doing it)
And finally, if you don't like it, don't use. Go to Direct, Cable, Firestick, OTA, Hulu or whatever. Online and irl, I'm sick to death of people constantly whining about every single freaking thing from Trump to soda, every topic under the sun is nothing but people crying. A lot of people are on here to learn and to help where we can, where I can anyway. If you don't like what I have to say, ignore works well, I have a few people on it and it makes life a lot better
There is always the Wally, poor replacement but has major features of 211
Dish knows more about their customer's viewing habits than we realize so if they're planning to implement a 2-tuner receiver, they likely have data that that says it will work for a sufficient number of customers.
I can do without buggy software, excessive unnecessary FEES and an EPG that works only when it wants to. 16 tuners is meaningless to me. I have the same 2TB of storage as an H3 without extra stuff I don't need.

Compared to a 16-tuner, I'd say absolutely yes. Also, who else uses a 16-tuner module ? No one.... So there's a volume penalty on Dish for that. Lots of companies use modules with a more uniform/common number (2, 3, 4, etc).

Yes and no. They already maintain multiple sets of code although many are no longer maintained heavily. Also, we already see sharing of code amongst the different Hopper models even though they have differences. Finally, a receiver like the Hopper 1 could reach a point where the code for it isn't actively worked on but only serious bugs are fixed (and again, the fixes are made in the H3 and trickled down anyway).
I'm sorry this is a dumb business decision.
They need to get rid of all the SD equipment before they even consider going after VIP equipment.
As long as the receiver can do 8PSK, MPEG4 then there is no reason to retire it.
Unless the Kangaroo garbage is capable of MPEG8 with 16PSK or whatever better chip set to handle higher compression, then there is no Point in phasing it out.
