Video Game Deals

My bad, I meant to say $20 OFF because this applied to the regular and deluxe edition. Edited original post, and if nothing else you added a link for Amazon.

It's very telling that the game is literally less than 2 weeks old and is already having a major discount. $40 is probably the original price that this should have been given the INCREDIBLE lack of content. BF fans aren't very happy with this release from what I've been reading. Angry Joe and Total Biscuit certainly weren't shy about sharing such feelings. The general consensus is "Yeah, it's not bad, but should have been $15-$20."

The free PS Plus games for April have been announced.

Tower of Guns (PS3, PS4)
Never Alone (PS4)
Dishonored (PS3)
Aaru's Awakening (PS3, PS4)
Killzone Mercenary (Vita)
Monsterbag (Vita)

It's a pretty weak month for me. Dishonored is cool for people who are still using their PS3s. Killzone Mercenary is one of the best AAA style games on the Vita but I got it cheap on sale a long time back. I might try Never Alone because I remember seeing a nice looking preview video or something for it. I've never even heard of the other 3 games.

It's definitely a nice update in a general sense -- with two AAA games, including one on the Vita. I can't remember that last time that happened.

I'm all about the indie puzzle platformer adventure games these days, so Never Alone is right up my alley. I've been interested in it since I saw previews at the time it was released. And Monsterbag looks like a game I can play while watching baseball!

There is a new Humble Indie Bundle.

$1 or more gets you...
Pixel Piracy
UnEpic
Super Splatters

Paying more than the average purchase price (currently $5.23) gets you the previous games plus...
Outlast
Torchlight 2
La-Mulana
Plus more games to be announced next Tuesday.

Paying $10 or more gets you all of that plus Shadow Warrior Special Edition (2013)

Every single one of these games has a positive or higher rating on Steam. I was going to go for the average price but I ended up going in for $10 because Shadow Warrior looks kind of cool.

Shadow Warrior is pretty cool. The storyline and setting is a departure from the original (which you can get for free BTW) but it is really a callback to the FPS games of the 90s. I got through some of it but once again my ADHD threw my attention towards the new shiny thing,

Also, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is 60% off. I think I may finally fire that up tonight. OR I may go back and fire up my One and do TF/MCC..I'll see how my mood is.

Speaking of Batman (referring to the console bundle discussed in the PS4 owners thread), there's a big Batman sale on the PSN this week. My three-year wait for a Harley Quinn DLC sale (Batman Arkham City) finally paid off. It's only $2.50 for Plus members. I just hope I remember the controls for a Batman game.

Luckily I had Arkham City on Steam before they patched the crappy Games for Windows Live service out of it. When they did that they upgraded everyone to the GOTY edition. From what I remember, the Harley Quinn DLC was fun but I don't remember much detail about it.

I've always liked all the work the put into other characters for challenge maps. They include multiple skins for each of them and give them unique skills and weapons that make them feel different in combat. They do all that work and then restrict these characters to challenge maps. All I could think of when running Arkham City challenge maps as Nightwing is that it would be really cool to use him for missions that have an actual plot.

That was the main thing I remember from the Harley Quinn DLC. It was cool to play as Robin for actual missions instead of just challenge maps. The Catwoman missions were alright too but I'd like to see more of that kind of thing even if it's limited to DLC and not part of the main story. I realize that the story could get pretty convoluted if they let us play missions as Batman, Robin, Nightwing, Catwoman, Red Hood, Harley Quinn, etc...

That's why it's such a bummer that Arkham Knight made the Red Hood missions an exclusive pre-order bonus for Gamestop. I pre-ordered on PC and I get Harley Quinn playable in challenge maps but no Red Hood missions.

The Catwoman missions were one of my favorite things about Batman Arkham City. I also did a lot of her challenge maps. But after going to the trouble of collecting all 440 Riddler trophies, I lost interest in Arkham City and never even finished a new game plus play through. In general, I thought the challenge maps were a bit overdone in the first two Batman games, especially the second one, with all the DLC characters.

R.B.I. Baseball will be only $19.99. Reminds me of NFL 2k5 when it came out at that price.

The main difference is that NFL 2k5 was trying to directly compete with Madden so they went to that price to steal market share. RBI Baseball is not really trying to compete with MLB the Show. RBI Baseball would have been a part of Xbox Live Arcade if they were still calling it that on Xbox One. It's basically a cheap, arcadey baseball game that is supposed to play like the old SNES baseball games. Some people definitely like it but its not really even the same genre as MLB the Show.

MLB the Show 15 came out yesterday. I skipped last season because the first year of a sports games on a new console tends to be lacking. I'm a huge baseball fan and I have always been a big fan of the series so I had this one pre-ordered and pre-loaded before launch. I'm already a couple games into the franchise mode.

MLB the Show is the most detailed sports game I have ever played. They have every detail of the stadiums and the players are recognizable just based on their face and the way they move without having to see their name or number. The game also plays great and is a pretty accurate baseball sim. Unfortunately it's a Playstation exclusive franchise.

Sorry if it sounds like I am crapping on RBI Baseball. I had fun with SNES baseball games and I can see the appeal here. I just wanted to make sure people didn't buy it at $19.99 thinking it was the answer to The Show for Xbox gamers. It's not $19.99 to steal market share with a competitive product like NFL 2k5. It's $19.99 because it's a much lower budget, smaller game.

Apparently 2K's strategy worked too well, because that was the last game to come out after EA pulled a d*ck move and bought the NFL exclusive rights.

I was actually hoping it was more arcadey. I am not good at the realistic baseball games anymore.

Same here. Though in my case, I've never been good at the more recent baseball sim games.

As a huge baseball fan, I've spent a few hours over the years with the various MLB The Show and 2K Baseball demos and not once have I ever managed to score a run on the lowest difficulty settings, though I did okay pitching and fielding. These games are not designed for casual fans it seems. Unlike Madden, which even a non-gamer girl-friend of mine was able to pick up and play after a brief tutorial (she almost beat me in fact, but only because I promised not to blitz).
