Verizon about to throw some money away behind Windows Phone

That is true, but ancient history. Today Apple's education programs provide $50- $100 discount on macs, and nothing on iPads. Not saying $100 off isn't a bad thing, its just not anything huge. They do still provide access to the white MacBooks. They simply do not need to provide huge discounts.

We took advantage of that when we bought my wife's MBP. We would have still bought it even without the $100 discount.

They also dominate the higher education market today. macs might be just 12-15 percent of the overall computer market, but not true in today's higher Ed world. Much higher penetration.

they do offer some corporate discounts though. Given their prior emphasis on the educational market I am surprises there are not similar educational discounts.

I think its funny that the people that are saying the Os and Phone are pretty bad and not good, probably have never even used it, or used it for such a short time they didnt really use it. I have used windows phone and really enjoyed what I saw...it does need more apps, but the OS was VERY fluid and solid..plus I dont think anyone can argue live tiles are a very fresh way of displaying info on your homescreen.

I think decades of Microsoft experience shades perception, and causes folks to not even consider it, and no matter how good it is, the perception is what counts. Right or wrong.

It would have to be night and day different from their old phones for me. Which it does sound like they have now, but it is too late for me.

Yeah, it is night and day (or more) difference for sure. Excellent OS. I know that not everyone likes the user interface, which is true for every OS, but I dont see how anyone can honestly criticize the actual operation of it. It is one of the smoothest available. One might say "buttery" smooth even. :D
