US Soccer needs a miracle to advance....and gets it!(FINAL GAME SPOILERS)

How about those that play both soccer and baseball?

I wonder how he got that big?

This is a soccer thread, right??

Some people like to thread-crap and change the direction of a discussion because they do not like a particular sport...instead of letting the posters talk about the issue at hand. That issue is a big win for the US soccer team, but there are some who apparently do not want others to discuss a sport they themselves don't like.

I hate watching golf on TV...even though the guys aren't all fat, just some of them. But I don't jump into the US Open thread and start talking about how boring golf is, or how golfers aren't athletes. If you want to enjoy that thread, go right ahead...I won't bother you.

Obviously not everyone can have the same consideration regarding soccer.

Come-on Sandra. You were the first to post pics of baseball players and take it off topic. You were the first to even bring up baseball.

Don't go playing all innocent now. You are just as guilty as I am (I admit I contributed)
And this is coming from a baseball fan! :D :D :D

Outfielders spend an hour and a half setting up in the field during a nine inning game, and spend about a minute and a half of an entire game actually making plays!

You and others decided to come into a thread celebrating a big win by the US and, instead of talking about the win, telling us how you tried to watch soccer but you can't because it's too boring. Fine, if you think soccer is boring don't watch it.

But this discussion doesn't need to be thread-crapped by non-soccer fans. You successfully took the focus off the win by the US. Well done.

OK for an Italian girl this is as close to nirvana as it gets. Derek Jeter is cute, Henrik Lundqvist is a total hottie, but this beyond words. You can keep Jonathan Broxton and his huge head.

Guys, please take notes, this is how it's done...

  • fini_small.jpg
Michele Fini (Cagliari) - There’s something about Fini that makes me think every time I see him play, “He should be a model for Armani suits or something.” I don’t know what it is. It’s like I don’t expect him to be a footballer, I expect him to be a business man. No matter, he’s hot either way in my book.
  • pazzini.jpg
Giampaolo Pazzini (Fiorentina) - Pazzini has this annoying habit of parting his hair down the middle for games (though perhaps it starts out kind of spiked in a faux-hawk like in this picture, I have no idea), but despite that slight personality flaw I still think he’s a hottie.
  • derosa_small.jpg
Gaetano De Rosa (Genoa) - Don’t even bring up that he was born in Germany, people, because according to his bio page on the Genoa website he’s an Italian national. And that (in addition to his good looks) is enough for me.
  • gattuso_small.jpg
Gennaro Gattuso (AC Milan) - While I do sometimes wonder how a man who looks so very hairy can have such a pristinely smooth chest, I still have a very soft spot in my heart for “Rino” (especially when his beard is trimmed properly so that it doesn’t look like it’s about to take over his face).
  • delpiero_small.jpg
Alessandro Del Piero (Juventus) - Not only is he hot, Del Piero’s been a goal-scoring machine of late, so that’s an added bonus. I said goal-scoring machine, folks - he’s married. Sheesh.
  • tottiusethis_web.jpg
Francesco Totti (Roma) - I hear that Totti is something of a household joke throughout Italy for reportedly not being very bright. There is, I’m told, a whole series of jokes where Totti is basically the punchline. However, when he’s on form he’s an absolute magician on the pitch. And of course he’s easy on the eyes, which doesn’t hurt. (This is an old picture - his hair is quite short now - but I think those pecs are pretty up-to-date.)
  • toni_small.jpg
Luca Toni (Bayern Munich) - Toni left Fiorentina not long ago to play for a German team. He looks here like he’s wondering if we forgive him for leaving his Italian team, doesn’t he? Well, the answer, Luca, is - yes, yes we do. Wait, what was the question?
  • cannavaro_small.jpg
Fabio Cannavaro (Real Madrid) - Ummm, yeah. I’m just not sure anything more needs to be said here, which is good, because I’m kind of at a loss for words. The only thing I can think of to say is, “Throw in!”
  • maldini_small.jpg
Paolo Maldini (AC Milan) - Whatever the question is, Paolo, the answer is yes. A thousand times yes.
  • pirlo1_small.jpg
Andrea Pirlo (AC Milan) - Pirlo is, without a doubt, my #1 Italian footballer hottie. I adore Pirlo so much that my husband has taken to saying, “your boyfriend is on” every time Pirlo appears onscreen during a televised Milan match. (Yes, I have a tolerant husband.) And now that I know D&G put out this calendar, I’m really annoyed that I didn’t pick up a copy while we were in Milan earlier this year!

Come on people, get back the subject of the title please.

Thank you!

The subject at hand is the HUGE win by Team USA and the big showdown with Brazil on Sunday. I am VERY excited for this game. TEAM USA's improvement from game 1 to the win against Egypt is night and day. We shall see which team shows up against Brazil.

Can you delete my and Sandra's OT posts?
Why? It was such an entertaining discussion! :D

Seriously, no more OT posts please! No more childish "this sport is better" disputes. ;)
Every sport has its beauty and its fans. Just enjoy it if you can. And if you can't - don't spoil it for others.

This week was one of the best moments in the entire US Soccer history. Why spoil it?!

Exactly. I can't possibly imagine the thrill of watching a bunch of cars go round and round in a circle 500 times. It would drive me crazy. But I don't jump into the NASCAR thread to tell them I think it's boring, or baseball players are better athletes than drivers. Let them have their fun.

Sandra

Sandra, this goes to you as well. No more pictures please! :D

So, anyone wants to make a prediction for Sunday?

Almost any sport can bring you to sleep if you are not into it. I could say the same about tennis, baseball or many other kinds of sport. That's all until you learn to appreciate it, until you start understanding all the drama. And then you find yourself following the action as it develops, sitting at the edge of your chair even during some of the scoreless matches. Soccer is a beautiful sport, especially when high-ranking teams are playing. It's unfortunate that in this country it doesn't get the same following and recognition as it does in the rest of the world.
I fully agree. Personally, I find it hard to believe that someone would not absolutely love hockey...but if they didn't grow up playing the sport, grow up in a hockey town, always find a new hockey stick under the Christmas Tree and hockey pucks in their stocking, and lace-up a pair of skates at hit the frozen ponds and backyard rinks each winter...well, these people may learn to appreciate hockey but it will never be part of their soul.

Anyway, I was never a big soccer fan but I sure do miss watching the La Liga on WorldSport and our live chats here at SatelliteGuys. I will set the DVR and do my best to be around for the game on Sunday afternoon.

Why not? I do. I also do not understand the appeal of watching cars go in an oval for hours with not much changing in between. (We can agree that Soccer is more exciting than NASCAR). :p

Anyway, people do this on baseball threads all of the time. It never offends me. I just look at it as innocent ribbing that livens up the thread. Plus, why should I care what someone else thinks of a sport I like. I can careless if they think it is boring.
