The Road to SuperBowl XLIV: The Official 2010 NFL Playoffs Thread

The sad thing for us Bolts fans is that Rivers and the Chargers have Manning's number (5-1 in the last 6 games as I remember), but F'd up the chance to get to that game. It wasn't the Jets that were overconfident, it was the Bolts.
Certainly they have had Manning's number in the past - much like the Patriots had it - but things change. Of course it doesn't matter if they can't win the games to get them to Indy.

Two other things that can't be overlooked:

1. Who had the better team around them early in the decade?

2. Who's been better in nearly every way (including head to head and SB wins) in the last few years? If we were having this discussion 3 or 4 years ago (or maybe even during the Patriots almost 19-0 season), it would look a lot different, but I don't think anyone can argue that Peyton is on a completely different level right now, no matter who you compare him to.

If the Colts win the Super Bowl this year and their careers keep going the way they appear to be going at the moment (in opposite directions), there won't even be an argument to have in a couple more years.

Did I miss something here ?
Are you saying that Brady's career is going downhill ?

I think you have some explain'in to do if thats the case, unless your talkin about something else.

Sunday’s epic 2010 NFC Championship on FOX between the New Orleans Saints and Minnesota Vikings delivered an extraordinary 30.6/45 household rating/share and averaged over 57.9 million viewers, according to fast national figures released by Nielsen Media Research.

Excluding Super Bowl broadcasts, last night’s average audience of 57.9 million ascends the 2010 NFC Championship to television’s most-watched program since the 1998 “Seinfeld” series finale (76.3 million viewers). It also ranks as the eighth most-watched show in the history of FOX, trailing only the network’s five Super Bowls and two Super Bowl postgame shows.

Ratings climbed to Super Bowl-like levels as the game progressed toward overtime, peaking at an astounding 34.4/48 rating and 65.2 million viewers from 9:30-10 p.m. ET.

Proposal: Super Bowl should be moved to... Saturday!

Anyone hear the debate on Mike & Mike this morning that proposed the idea of moving the Super Bowl to Saturday?

Historically Saturday has been an off-night for TV, but in this case, I don't think it would lose any viewers. It's been proven in past premiere Saturday night College Football broadcasts that viewers will tune into sports on Saturday night if there is something compelling on. And in the case of the Super Bowl (ie. the biggest televised event of the year), I think it makes perfect sense. As a matter of fact, I think it'd become an even BIGGER event. Most people would have the full day to party and not have to worry about work the next morning. Sunday would be a day of recovery.

I wonder if the Commish would ever consider moving the SB to Saturday?

Good idea, that is why the worst commissioner in NFL history won't do it. He is to busy doing dumb sh*t like the London game and the Pro Bowl before the Superbowl.

Just don't start it to late, this is the one sports championship that preteens and younger can still watch all the way through.

I basically agree with this sentiment, but don't forget, the Eastern time zone is not the only time zone! When I lived in LA it was so strange for the Super Bowl to start mid-afternoon.

The Rose Bowl also started very early in Cabo!!!

That would be a GREAT idea. Most of my Super Bowl parties end up with people leaving early because they have to work the next day and need to get up early.

Unfortunately that's what I think would happen if the game was moved to Saturday. I feel it's only as "early" as it is now because it's currently on a Sunday.

Why not?

The AFC Championship started at 3:30pm EST and the NFC Championship 7pm.... on a Saturday and those games did rather well in the ratings. (Set records if I recall correctly).

I think you have some explain'in to do if thats the case, unless your talkin about something else.

I said they appear to be going in opposite directions (Manning up, Brady down) at the moment - as in, look at what Peyton is doing in this year's playoffs vs what Brady did... look at how their respective teams seem to be going (I don't see the Patriots returning to the "glory days" anytime soon), etc. I'm not saying Brady's not still a great QB, but it is starting to look like his career could be headed downhill, if for no other reason than that the team around him has some rebuilding to do.

Will he ever win another Super Bowl? Possibly. Will they ever get back to where they were a few years ago where you pretty much penciled them in for the AFC Championship every year? I don't think so.

Anyway, all I was trying to say is that Brady's career is in a worse place now than it was a few years ago, while Manning's is in a better one - hence, they're going in different directions. Don't think anyone could argue with that at this point...

You can bet that IF the Super Bowl got moved to Saturday (I'm all for it and the MNC game to Saturday too).
That the SB would not be starting till 8 PM and still running till probably midnight.
At least you would have Sunday to recooperate

I would rather it stay at that same time, but I could live with it. If it ever started at 8pm on Sunday though. I would not make it to the end of the game and I really think they would lose a LOT of viewers if they ever did that. I really think MLB needs to change the start times of the World Series to 7pm like all the regular season games and they will have a lot more viewers at the end of the game.

There are those left coast viewers that the networks concerned about (4pm start time??), but there's no reason that weekend games couldn't start that "early"...

I actually took that into consideration and being able to see the end of the game is way more important than the beginning of the game.

HD Predicts the SuperBowl

Colts in a route.

The Vikings had 5 turnovers and it still took the Saints a coin-toss in overtime to beat them. No way in hell Peyton Manning turns the ball over that many times.

Following last week's NFC Championship it looked as if the Saints just won the Super Bowl. Celebrations ensued into the wee hours on Bourbon Street that night. Reggie Bush couldn't even take off his sunglasses the next day as he was too hung over. In short, I think the Saints are happy advancing to the point they're at, while the Colts are all business and realize their final goal is not yet finished. No way Peyton Manning tolerates a letdown either.

February 7th will mark the 3rd time in 4 years a Manning has won the Super Bowl.

The funny thing is, the team that played the worst last week between all four teams, was the New Orleans Saints. Go figure...

The Colts really haven't stopped a high powered offense all year.

Unless the Saints or Colts start turning the ball over this will be a shoot out.

Saints 39 Colts 31
