The Road to SuperBowl XLIV: The Official 2010 NFL Playoffs Thread

Congrats on the win Sandra. I love the Jets defense and you guys have a STRONG run game. Shonn Greene looks like a stud. Mark Sanchez had a great game too. I loved his postgame remarks about Pete Caroll. Very funny.

With that said, I just couldn't resist busting yours and Braylon's grapes just one more time this year.... :D

My goodness, does accuracy mean anything to you guys? :D

You can find a drop from any player you want, but to be fair you should also include IN THAT SAME POST a video of the Edwards catch on third and six at the Bengals' 25, when Edwards caught a Sanchez fastball and carried it to the Bengals 9 for a first down. Tough catch and a HUGE play, which led to the Thomas Jones touchdown that put the Jets up 21-7.

OK, Mr. Demille, we're ready for the video...;)

They defended that pretty well on Inside the NFL, and I think they all agreed (especially the players) that it was a good move. They are a team that people didn't expect to be there, and seeing that itinerary drives home that it's more than just 'omg we are in a big game' and helps them realize they are just 2 more from playing in the Super Bowl.

They were a little more emphatic and eloquent with making that point though, being former players.

And three more wins from a parade. :)

It's one thing for a coach to be confident in his team's abilities and chances to win; you want that. What you don't want is him to be spouting stuff that will come back to bite him in the ass if by some chance they don't win it all. ;)

Plus, these proclamations are doubly strange coming from Ryan when it wasn't that long ago (12/20) that he proclaimed the Jets were out of playoff contention:

Rex Ryan claims Jets are out of playoffs, but team is still a wild-card longshot with two games left

That's the part I have a problem with.

That's fine that you're openly confident that your team is primed to win a championship, but don't openly quit on them when they're down!

Cannot believe I'm defending Ryan when I've been his harshest critic but...fair is fair.

And in fairness to Ryan, he was not quitting on his team. It wasn't that he thought his team would fail, during the press conference he actually thought the Jets were mathematically eliminated. He was wrong, of course, but that is different from quitting on his team.

The Raider/Bronco late game was being played DURING the press conference where he said that, and Ryan either didn't realize a Raider victory kept the Jets mathematically alive, or assumed the Broncos would win. When the Raiders won, that changed everything.

When the Raiders beat the Broncos (that game was being played DURING the press conference), the Jets were suddenly alive again.

Gotcha..........I stand corrected. :)

That certainly makes a big difference!

Have no fear, Edwards is primed for a monster game soon. The word comes from the confident coach himself:

"That's killing him right now, but one of these days he's going to have an explosion where it's a three-touchdown day, where he goes up top for three long gains," Ryan said. "I think it's coming. It's right around the corner."

"I don't know if it's a mental thing or what, but we have to get him right," Ryan said. "I'm expecting him to have a huge game."

Head coach Rex Ryan says Braylon Edwards will have breakout game soon for New York Jets

In some NFL news...I don't know if it was brought up...but CRIBB stated he will SIT OUT the season if he is not traded or offered more money. Considering he is more or less the best player they have and more or less the entire offense....I am surprised that the offer is barely a raise(in NFL standards, of course...).

Cribb Will Sit Out Next Season if Browns Don’t Trade Him

I've touched on the Josh Cribbs situation in another thread. Here's my basic thoughts (from both persectives)...

1. The Browns have all the leverage in this situation. Cribbs has 3 more years left on his current contract. Do you really think he's going to hold out for 3 years?! Then what? Teams won't be interested in a kick returner who will be on the wrong side of 30 and hasn't played the game in 3 years.

2. I always find it funny when players who outperform their current contract lobby for a new contract. Would that same player ask for a decrease in pay if they "under perform" that contract?

3. Re-doing contracts with so many years remaining sets a bad precedent. If other players see Cribbs got his way, do they put up a stink and want their contract re-done?

4. With all that said, Cribbs HAS outperformed his contract, so I do agree he should get a raise and I believe he will get one. He just needs to relax. Holmgren has bigger fish to fry right now. It's his 5th day on the job and he's still trying get the front office in line. It's a long offseason. If Josh is reasonable, something will get done and everyone will be happy.
