The Orville on Hulu

Definitely not the best way to start the new season. Who's going to remember to watch it on the night before New Year's Eve?

If the date is correct, Sunday December 30 is the premiere, behind a double-header of NFL, so you better use PTAT or extend your timers by several hours again.

I typically do that for CBS shows that are on Sunday. Luckily Fox has their post-game show that has a variable time, so I haven't had to do it for them.

I still would like to know when we are going to get some real Star Trek again. There hasn't been any since Enterprise.

Never as long as this bunch is in charge. They just do not understand what ST is supposed to be all about, and how different that is from Star Wars.
I just want to be clear that my post was not a dig at The Orville at all. It is as close to a facsimile as we've seen from anywhere.

Agree. The Orville, and a lot of the youtube fan fiction, are both better Star Trek than either the current movies or this pay TV series. They just do not get it.

There was something Seth Macfarlane mentioned a few months ago, about how Episode 8 with Claire and Issac being stranded on that planet was a test for how far they could take the show when it came to drama and seriousness, and it ended up working well for them. When you combine that with what he said about Season 2 being more sci-fi in nature, I would hope that he means less comedy in general.

If he can tone down the comedy and gags just a bit more, then I think he'll solve the problem many people are complaining about with the series. I mean, now that Dark Matter and The Expanse have both been cancelled, The Orville really is the only thing left that resembles Star Trek (I don't really count Killjoys because 90% of the show takes place on planets instead of in space).

I don't mind the gags so much. As long as there's a good mix of comedy and sci-fi, I'm good. I actually think Orville has more of a Galaxy Quest feel to it than Star Trek, which again is fine.

FINALLY A SURPRISE at least to me a rerun of ORVILLE is scheduled for 6/22/18 on FOX. I don't know if it means reruns till fall then new episodes but it could mean something to watch this summer.

More than one site is saying this and the reasoning has much to do with NFL Thursday Night Football being in the way on Fox this coming season.
Yup, I saw that too.

The Orville Season 2 Release Date
The Orville Season 2 premiere will not be ready for a fall 2018 release and is instead happening on Sunday, December 30. Fox's schedule is all messed up because of Thursday Night Football, hence the delay. The second season will have at least 14 episodes, though. "I’d rather do fewer episodes and have them be better content-wise than do 22 and have them be filler," MacFarlane is quoted as saying by TVGuide.com.

I am impressed. Unlike the first season's trailer, which focused way too much on comedy, this season's trailer tones down the comedic aspect and focuses more on the sci-fi side, just like Seth mentioned it would in the interviews a few months ago.

Everyone better remind each other to watch it live and DVR it to maintain the ratings, so we can guarantee another renewal for 2020.

Unfortunately I'll be out of town when this Finally returns (good thing, i'll be on vacation ... :))

I first thought they put the premiere on in the middle of Bowl games, but as it turns out, there are no bowl games that day, however, it is a Sunday which makes it in the NFL games.

Just checked the NFL schedule and its the Last week of the season and there are NO Late games to disrupt them.
