Not laughing at you or anything you said, I am laughing at the fact that this has morphed into an Ohio State thread...THAT is funny!
Seems like every college football thread here has morphed into an Ohio State thread...

Well, regardless of what happens going forward, Ohio State has already received a lot more than 'little to no punishment'.
Didn't sound like there was much winking going on at the hearing on Friday. Sounded like the school tried to completely distance themselves from Tressel.Sandra
I would say if the school had heard the allegations and did nothing, they are toast. If the coach heard the allegations and did nothing or worse covered it up, very bad. From what little I know and have read, I think the U will be the second school to get the death penalty. This of course will have financial ramifications on the entire school. Very sad.
Tressel was his own worst enemy. It's not like the AD WANTED to fire him. With all the evidence that Tressel lied to the NCAA over his knowing about illegal player percs, all the email coverups, the university had no choice. If Tressel had just been a LITTLE dirty, he'd still be there.Well, at the absolute minimum, OSU had to jettison Tressel, one of the best college football coaches on the planet. Ten win season and victories over Michigan became as certain as the sunrise, and it looked like we were hopefully going to enjoy that for a couple more decades. Now that's all gone.
Yes, OSU will sooner or later wind up with a big-time coach like Meyer, Stoops or Gruden. Nice names, but we would have liked to have kept Tressel.

Another reason I think the NCAA needs a total rules overhaul. If the school knew of this and did nothing, punish heavily. If the school did not know but the coach (or staff) knew, punish the coach and slap the wrist of the school for the first violation and become more severe for other violations. If the coach lied or tried to cover up, ban him from ever coaching any level of college sports again. The tricky part is if the players violated rules, the school, the coaching staff, and others did not know and this was found out afterwards. Unless the school has a history of this I am not sure what good it does to punish the school, program, coaches, and the kids who go to play. Surely we can find a way to deal with that situation. These are just my opinions.

From the ESPN article Ponzi schemer Nevin Shapiro says he provided benefits to Miami athletes - ESPN
"Shapiro said he paid for 39 different players to receive sex from prostitutes. He also claimed to have offered a $5,000 bounty to any player who could knock Florida State quarterback Chris Rix out of a game; gave players access to his multimillion-dollar home and yacht; and alleges he bought rims for Hester's sport-utility vehicle."
I think that bounty to hurt a kid is the dirtiest part. Its not really part of the illegal recruiting going on but it's just flat out disgusting. Miami has to be right up there with anyone as the dirtiest sports program in the country.

The school needs to be very pro active and deal swiftly with any person involved. I know we need rules but I hate the idea of a university, fan base, students, and staff to suffer for things they cannot control. As I think someone else said earlier, you cannot watch every player 24/7. If the players were allowed to receive a small sum of money to help with normal kid expenses and wants, would that solve the temptation? Not entirely but it is quite obvious that what the NCAA is doing now is not working either. Now that the NCAA rakes in billions college sports, to a large degree, have been damaged. I think it was in the movie, Bobby Jones, Stroke of Genius, where the comment was made, money will ruin sports. Maybe we are there. You know, I am getting a strange feeling that they will not get a death penalty. I mean given to what happened to SMU and the financial ramafications this could have on a school and a community, I have a strange feeling they are gonna get nailed to the wall JUST SHORT of a death penalty. Now I am NOT saying(before the usual suspects put words in my mouth) that IF everything that is alleged is proved to be true, they do not deserve the death penalty....What I am saying is before ANY NCAA infractions team makes a decision THAT final, you can best be sure that city leaders in Miami and anywhere else where there is a possibility of a death penalty can take place, there will be discussions on what is best for the community as a whole.

Let's not be naive here to think Miami is the only school in the country to do this "bounty hunting". The difference here is that it is mentioned and the phrase "bounty hunting" was used and not called a 'defensive challenge'. As long as there were no flags for 'extra curricular activities', they are clean hits and all league within the game.
Are you kidding me!? There are much better SOs on the air than that crap you listed (no offense riff...just trying to keep with the flavor of this thread ).You people are killing me...absolutely killing me! Only a handful of replies to meaningful Sports Section subjects like "The British Open" and "PGA Championship" yet post after post, jab after jab, poke after poke, about a nonsensical 15-minute topics like Tressel/Pryor leaving OSU or the NCAA investigating some booster shenanigans. Ugh! I think you people need to watch a Soap Opera before they all disappear from the airwaves. I've posted the following schedule for your convenience since y'all love discussing this kind of garbage:
ABC:
All My Children (to be cancelled in September)
One Life to Live (to be cancelled in September)
