The NEW iPhone 4S Discussion

Since the 4S is a "World Phone" that has both radios for GSM and CDMA, will that require me to use a SIM card with Verizon? Will it roam on GSM networks in the US or is that just around the world?

When you order it they ask if you want a Sim Card and a Global Plan. I said no. I have NO idea how the sim card works, so I don't know if it will roam on GSM networks, but I would guess no.

I don't need a global plan as I don't travel really. I was just curious. I've seen Blackberries at work that have those Verizon SIM cards and was curious.

Depends on the sim card.

I have taken an AT&T sim card and put in my old BB Tour and it used the edge network fine. Could make calls with it, and it showed up as the number of the phone that I borrowed the card from.

Using a verizon sim card I doubt it would do that on domestic networks.

I hit the Sprint web site this morning, and bought one. I was due for a phone upgrade and I'm not crazy about my HTC Hero. Got a 32.

If you decide to go outside the US, contact VZ and they will get you a sim card and an international plan. You can cancel the plan when you get back.

The Hero was the crap equivalent to the Samsung Moment I had before my EVO. Good choice on the upgrade.

I am going to hold off on this.
I am going to wait for iPhone 5 :).
I am sure it will be 4G compatible by that time.

Apple gave a big break to AT&T.
Their PHAIL 4G would have been epic if they added 4G on this release.

There is a thread on this exact same topic somewhere.

Some are saying the 4s will only be faster than the 4g on the ATT network only. The other networks will be the same speed

Correct there are no download sppeed gains on CDMA. having said that the processor is faster which might benefit you in other areas.

LTE doesn't matter to me as I doubt Verizon will have it in my area any time soon. Even the closest large city to me doesn't have LTE and isn't slated to get it any time soon.

I think so. The reviews were great on The Hero when it was launched, but it never was fast enough for web surfing. Little by little. things have stopped working on it. Sprint says I'll have my iphone next Friday or Saturday.
