The "new" iPad Announcement / Discussion Thread

My accessories shipped yesterday (due Wednesday), the iPad shipped today (due COB Friday). All from Shenzhen. Hard to believe Apple didn't ship a boatload here cheap, then single them out for delivery.

I wouldn't have even thought to check, if it hadn't been for your post.

Now I've got to contain my excitement, and keep myself from opening it Friday- leave that for her. After all, it is hers. I gotta keep telling myself that. :p

I noticed the status on the Apple Care is "Complete:" Complete We've billed you for Apple services only. You will not receive a physical item.

When I bought Apple Care on a couple of laptops (work) it seems I had to register it. Same for iPhones. How does this actually work? They just know that name and/or serial number has a year's support?

When I got the mbp, it was a package and had to be registered, but when I got Apple Care + for the iPhone, which I did over the phone, it was done automatically by Apple.

Just checked my banking activity and Apple had pulled funds twice for the one iPad I ordered. Called Apple customer service and they quickly acknowledged and reversed, but said it would take 3 to 5 business days for the money to come back. The CSR was great, but I don't buy that it takes that long to put the money back when it took minutes to take it. The rep did send me an online apple store discount code for my trouble, and that was nice, but I'm more concerned about the temporary hole in my checking account.

I'm still waiting on my purchase email confirmation from Apple. LOL.... that was done on Wednesday.

Benefits of a debit card? Mistakes happen but at least you are dealing with a reputable company who is acting promptly. The few days to reverse is typical of the timing float banks take liberty with as debit cards are not regulated. Even credit cards can take 72 hrs but with CC you aren't out the money, just your line of credit. This just happened to me with a security deposit at a hotel we stayed at. This is a new practice I'm seeing more and more. They were supposed to credit my CC at checkout but the desk clerk forgot. 15 days later I had to call and they said it would show up in 72 hrs. In my case 72 hrs plus a weekend.

It is typically faster to process a refund than it was to make the purchase in the first place except that it may have to be done by manual entry.

We'll see if they figure out how to add phone capabilities as was originally hoped for by many.

phone capabilities to the iPad? why? It has iMessage, which for iOS-users provides full SMS capabilities. It has a front camera, so you can Skype, but why would we expect it to be a phone?

A bluetooth earpiece and it would be complete. Awkward, but complete.

What I'd like to see is the option of moving a SIM card from iPhone to iPad and that would determine which was your "phone" with the same number. Same, combined data plan, of course.

So, you don't have to carry two devices. Redundancy.

Why can't the future iPad have phone capabilities? It makes sense. Not financially for Apple of course, they would lose some iPhone sales.

Interesting rumor on 9to5mac that I had not considered, but given this week, makes total sense. There may not be an iPhone 5; it may just be the new iPhone. apparently the rumor came out a few weeks ago before the "new iPad" keynote.

Yep. I was afraid of that. It'll just make it confusing as to what software updates your device will work with.

I guess it just becomes iPhone (5th generation), and then iPhone (6th generation). We'll look back someday and say, "remember when Apple use to number their products?" LOL Or not.

June? Aren't you the optimistic one!

Nah, I expect October - one year cycle, but no earlier than June. If they go June, then October could focus on the iTV. June would be good in my house too, since there are two Android users desperate for iPhones and their contracts allow upgrades in July. (of course, one of those users is 14 and has no money, so if the "new" iPhone :) comes out in June, I get it, and HE gets a nine month old 4S. :D )
