The Cleveland Cavaliers part ways with head coach Mike Brown

Mike Brown on Mike Brown

At last. Grimace speaks!

"The past 5 years have been an exceptional experience. I have been very fortunate to lead a group of men who I respect and thoroughly enjoyed coaching on a daily basis. At the same time, I was able to work alongside a terrific coaching staff and with Danny Ferry and a basketball operations team, all of whom I have a profound respect for. We partnered in creating a culture and a standard that I am, and will continue to be, very proud of. None of which would be possible without the dedication and support of Dan Gilbert. I am thankful for the opportunity that he gave to me and my family. We have a deep appreciation for Northeast Ohio, the Cleveland Cavaliers organization, and the people in this community, and have enjoyed making this our home."

I agree with Cosmo. What purpose would it possibly serve to say something bad about the team you left? Your chances of finding another coaching job would be hurt severely.

Glad you agree. :up

But it showed alot of class considering he was coach of the year last year, won almost as many games AGAIN...then get canned because his team was really not as good as they thought they were...he did need to go in a "we are the world" speech about EVERYONE in the organization. I am surprised he didn't include the food and beer vendors too....

Very classy speech no question. But it would have been career suicide if he did anything else, and Brown knows that.

Quick show of hands - Who was surprised by this firing?

If any of you listen to my ramblings throughout the year, I said at the start of the regular season that it's Championship or bust for this team. Anything less would've been a disappointment and someone ALWAYS (typically the coach) takes the fall for expectations not achieved.

Well, that makes 2 on the "not surprised" side.:D

Make it 3.

Cavs GM, Danny Ferry Resigns?

Danny Ferry tells the Plain Dealer he has resigned as general manager of the Cavs.

Assistant GM Chris Grant will replace Ferry, whose contract was set to expire at the end of June.

The decision to part ways was mutual

This was a late development. As of a few days ago Ferry was still intending to re-sign if a contract could be worked out.

I would quit too, if as GM I wasn't allowed to hire a coach yet....

Tom Izzo insisted recently that he has no interest in coaching in the NBA until he wins at least one more NCAA title at Michigan State.

But that stance might not stop the Cleveland Cavaliers from trying to hire Izzo as their next coach.

The News-Herald in Northern Ohio reported on its website Sunday night that the Cavaliers -- fresh off dismissing coach Mike Brown and parting ways with general manager Danny Ferry -- have formally extended an offer to Izzo to replace Brown.

The Cavaliers did not confirm or deny the report, declining comment Sunday night.

I sure hope they don't hire a college coach with 0 NBA head coaching experience - - - - even if it is Tom Izzo.

Yeah, I'm not sure how I feel about this one. On one hand, Tom Izzo's best attribute is that he gets his teams to play better when it counts more (postseason), which is exactly the kind of coach we need. On the other hand, he's never coached professionals.
