State of Texas increasing taxes on satellite?????

side note...I find it ironic that boba seems to report posts that are "duplicate" yet he does the SAME THING!!!

Not the best tax rates, it's what is not taxed, and the Homestead act. No income tax, no tax on vehicles. If your primary residence, A percentage of real estate taxes is exempt. Most everything costs less in Florida except insurance, and the income is much less also. It's why it is financially advantageous to move there in retirement.
Also, you can't lose your home in a lawsuit.

Save a spot for me. We may be moving down there after all.

Latest conversation with DISH'S retention dept reveals there are 8-10 states that are or are going to get SURCHARGES the only 2 I can add are Conn. and Virgin Islands.

Scott Conn. is your home state isn't it? Let us know how much more DISH is charging you, and think about that DISH ad where the Dish TV set tells the Directv set "I didn't raise my prices".

My VA bill, with two ViP722 receivers:

Are you saying VA is being charged a $1 SURCHARGE if so it looks like yours also is not a line item just kind of hidden in the total?

Any logical person would have figured out that the $1 difference from the previous bill to this bill was the $1 increase in the Protection Plan fee.

Since this is not really a tax but a surcharge it is being charged sales tax. If it was a tax they would not charge sales tax on it. This probably means that TX is collecting money from Dish somewhere (perhaps property taxes on their uplink center, or state income tax (TX has corporate tax)) and Dish is dividing up the costs among the TX accounts as a cost of doing business in the state.

Question I asked on Dish Answers on Facebook this morning:

  • Anybody know why a new charge was added to my bill, it was listed as ohio state surcharge of 20 cents?
    Dish Network

  • I understand your concern. Unfortunately, due to the increased costs associated with providing service in your state, this surcharge was added to all customer accounts who reside in Ohio. It allows us to continue providing all of your favorite programming by helping us account for this increased expense. I apologize for any inconvenience or confusion this may have caused.

Translation: Because we can

"Direct-to-home satellite service
is taxed at a state rate of 10.8 percent plus 2.37 percent gross receipts tax for a total of 13.17 percent. Local tax does not apply to these services."

Dang it. That sucks.
Not when you aren't paying income tax!

What increased cost? For providing locals?

The sickest part is taxachusetts wasn't charging any, and these are the people who want to tax everything possible. I mean if they had the ability to tax me when I scratch my head, they would. Also completely off topic, want to legalize marijuana but ban selling water in plastic bottles. Not that two have any connection, but funny when you think of it.

Not really the MJ can bring in revenue. The plastic bottles on the other hand just fills up the land fills that are limited in size.

Sounds very plausible. Either rate , we're going to have to pay it now in Texas. Since we have no state income tax, the only way they can raise revenue is to create new FEES and increase existing ones . They are following the DISH way of doing business, since they are the King of made up , charge it because we can FEES.

Gov makes E* a piker in comparison.

MSNBC on AT120 soon?

722 very sluggish
