I'm not that surprised, really. It aims at a demographic that wouldn't gain it much on the parent network. Look at Lost...it's dying too, so they're reairing it on SciFi to try to get some more money out of it...

LOST is dying because 1) They went too mysterious while never giving any answers for a LONG time; and 2) keeping it off the air for way too long.

Moron tv execs.

I would agree however that SGA would not bring much to NBC in terms of ratings; oh we would love it, but there is too much history and back-story to simply start airing it on prime-time.

Sci-Fi Channel is just so disappointing in their decisions. Would love to understand their business model.

Sadly, I think their business model is all too easy to understand... Keep down expenses and maximize profits.

Consequently, they axe their best rated (but also most expensive) shows and opt for moderate ratings but least expensive shows.

Sanctuary is a perfect example. It brings in moderate ratings and costs very little to produce because the vast majority of sets are virtual.

As for putting SGA on NBC in prime-time, you nailed it, Rocky. There's waaay too much back-story (going all the way back into SG1) to just drop it into prime-time and expect it to gain any more legs than it has on SciFi.

It's a strong, steady performer on SciFi. It'd only be a moderate (if that) performer on NBC...

Recorded the Marathon and have archived to the EHDD I'm storing Atlantis's on... a lot of dups from today... with everything I have to watch I was moving some things around in the HT room and came across my Stargate Atlantis Rising DVD and that's what I'm watching now... looks really good on the 73" screen and via the Sony BD player...

Heads up Dish people: check your timers! My 622 didn't pick up the finale as a new episode.

(It doesn't pick it, or any of the reruns past Wednesday, up as reruns either. It's as if it was a different series altogether. Episode numbers and original air dates are all in place, so I don't know what happened. Maybe it'll fix itself as time goes on, but I set a single-event timer for the finale now rather than take any chances and forget to check later.)
