Stargate Atlantis

That was... weird, to say the least.

A great spoof of the CSI stuff which I personally can't stand, but I could learn to enjoy sci-fi done in this style. Also, I wonder if the city panorama zoom shots were a nod to another series cancelled before its time: Las Vegas.

Obviously, what happened at the end, with the alien device causing a rip in the space time continuum and the homing beacon signal sent to the wrong universe, explains why the Wraith are on their way to Earth next week.

CSI often shows the skyline like that...
and Immediately I also knew how the Wraith found Earth
:)

SGA probably also faced contract issues with the key players. The series has been on a while, and contracts are probably coming up. It would have been great to see them go 10 years.

Season 5, I think I read elsewhere that MGM had a 5 year contract with some of the actors... I can't get into Sanctuary (yet) so hopefully Stargate Universe and Caprica will be good. One bonus for me is I stopped watching SGA regularly for awhile so I have several "new" episodes to watch ;)

I think they (MGM/Sony) could've easily taken this series 3 more seasons and then gone into direct-to-DVD movies (though I'd also like to see more SG1 D->DVD movies!)...

Sanctuary can (and in the part 1 of a 2-part season finale') and is getting more interesting, but the short (and consequently, rushed) first season caused them to take a lot of story shortcuts and arc threads are getting left loose or just plain ignored, which makes it annoying quite often. It doesn't flow smoothly because the first season was in-the-can before they decided to extend it. It has promise though.

Stargate Universe, given it's premise, is going to have to prove itself to me pretty quickly (first 5-10 episodes) or I'll likely lose interest. I too hope Caprica will be good, but it won't be BSG no matter how hard it tries...

All shows must end. Also, if I were an actor I wouldnt want to be tied to a show for more than 5 years. The trick is to go out on a high note instead of a whimper.

SG1 went 10 years and was still getting strong ratings. Most of the cast was willing to sign-on for an 11th season (maybe more), but SciFi gave them a thumbs-down mid-season and so they had to do some quick tie-ups and (thankfully) got to tie-up the lose-ends in the direct-to-DVD movies.

M*A*S*H ran 11 seasons and ended because the cast wanted the show to go out on a high note rather than getting cancelled.

SGA is far from being on it's last leg and the cast wasn't expecting to get cancelled after 5 seasons.

MGM/SciFi is just counting pennies and deciding to go with low-budget shows, made-for-scifi movies (low-budget) and re-runs.

There are always exceptions ;)

Oh... and there are others where even 5 seasons were too many. For example, this will be blasphemy but personally for the most part I could have done without the third and final season of Star Trek. Of course things could have been different.

Just got done watching the finale. Quite good.
with an end to the bad guys almost exactly like the one in the original Stargate movie. Insert nuke device in enemy ship, push button.

Enjoyable, but not very original.

Nothing like last week's very fun show!

See ya
Tony
Agreed. Except for where they ended up, just another episode. I think it was time for it to retire.
After having got caught up with all the marathons, I would have to say season 3 was the peak.

Well when do the movies start? Quite a few loose ends.

Who was the girl that came for Ronon?
What about the other dimension Wraith?
What to do with Todd?
Are more Wraith coming from the Pegasus galaxy?

Too many loose ends to not have at least one movie. I enjoyed it, but I wanted more...

Still...
The "General Hammond" was a really nice touch. I figure Atlantis has to head back to Pegasus again...too much going on there to leave it sitting off the CA coast (and tie the Navy up guarding it], plus, Sheppard said they'd get Ronan home soon... Like the Super-Wraith ship.

The problem was that they found out they were cancelled only a few days before they shot the episode, so they hastily turned a season ender into a series ender.

I did like the episode though.... I'm still a sucker for a timer counting down. A cliche, but one I never get sick of.....

Best exchange..... (roughly paraphrased)

Todd: "You expect that to convince me to help you?"
Shepard: "Actually, I thought you'd want to help us just to spite him" (the guy who screwed Todd over)
Todd: (laughs) "You REALLY know how to speak to me!!"

I guess I'm the only one that didn't like the "Vegas" episode. It just felt too out of place to me. Then the finale I was expecting to really be a finale. But that's ok. It leaves it open for a continuation in movies. We wanted to know who the girl that came to get Ronan was. They made it seem like we should have known her.

I liked this one also... better ending than most series get... and the General Hammond reference was a good touch... could have used Daniel, Teal'c and Jack in Cameo's though... :D
