I am having horrible signal droupout on my Sirius Sattelite radio in Northern California. Particularly the Sacramento area. I am using the Blaupunkt reciever. Any idea why this is happening? Is it my receiver or is it just the signal?

Welcome to SatelliteGuys.us :D

It could be a few things, antenna placement, obstruction to the satellites or defective equipement. Sirius customer care has a very detailed reporting/trouble shooting system for problems like your description. Down to the time of day, direction of travel and terrain. I would call Sirius and ask them for help.

Yeah.. I had it professionally installed so I doubt its antenna placement... maybe the equiptment is bad.. I will call sirius and see what they say. Thanks for your suggestion :)

Is your signal dropout all day long, or only at certain times of the day? When I originally installed my outdoor antenna, the signal was OK. It was only after extended listening, that I noticed three periods per day of extended signal loss, each lasting about an hour. Since Sirius has three birds, and they are not stationary, I made the connection, and moved the antenna.

By "professionally installed" I assume you mean they charged you for installation. If they are professional, they should be in contact with you to check how well the system is working for you. If you are having antenna placement probblems, they should correct it.

Yeah I had the antenna installed at a local Frys Electronics store. It only happens in certain areas which is weird... when I drive out certain areas of sacramento (the same areas everytime, sometimes just like a one mile area) it goes bad, but around my house it is always 2-3 bars. Which leads me to believe the antenna is working. I don't go out to those areas a lot, but when I do signal is terrible.. goes between one bar and no bars. Should I go back to the store where I had it installed, call sirius, or try something else?

Well I would go back to the retailer as they SHOULD be the most educated about area problems (thats never a guarantee) then if you don't get satisfaction, call Sirius. At that point you will be able to explain to them your issue and what you have already done locally to correct it.

I have driven all of the SE and SW without experiencing this unless I am in a tunnel or some locally suburban street where they think its cool to have large trees limbs grow together from one side of the street to the other. My daily drives in the Phoenix valleys never have drops.

Thanks for your advice. Unfortunatly I had the radio installed in Southern CA and then moved up to Northern CA. In southern CA it was fine so it will actually be hard for me to go back to the store. I guess I will have to call sirius and see what they say.
