Signal Quality numbers and more

Here are my signal quality and power for all HD channels. I am keeping these as a reference point. One more interested piece of information is the EMM information. Three Channels per EMM. If you count unique EMM, the total is 13 (Voom has 13 TPs available) There are only 5 more HD channels that can be fit using 3 per channels.
These are the five HD channels that I assume they may add.

• TNT-HD
• Encore-HD
• Playboy-HD
• ESPN-HD
• PPV-HD

Now if MPEG-4 comes around soon, it will provide more space for a few more HD channels.

They also can eliminate INVOOM and get another channel or consolidate the CINEMA 10 channels. I do not see the consolidation happenning.

Signal Quality Numbers

I noticed that your signal quality numbers are between 50 and 60. Is this the norm for most VOOM installations ? I am currently a DirecTV user with the HD package and have decided to try VOOM out. My installation date is supposed to be March 31.

My signal quality for D* for all transponders is between 98 - 100 depending on cloud cover. Is D* inherently characterized by better signal quality as compared to VOOM ?

The scale is different. That's why we can't compare the numbers.

Manually one by one... I have yet to do it for Playboy-HD and Encore-HD. I also want to do it for the SD channels. But it is a hell of a job. If you can help me do it for the SD channels. Take the Movie premium channels or another block of channels and let me know. This way will know how many SD channels/transponder as well as HD/transponder.

I think also that V* only has space for three more HD channels assuming that my hypothesis is correct 3 HD channels per transponder (13 Tps).

Yes, in terms of quality and strength but the EMM Provider (which somehow I think is related to TPs, don't know for sure) should have remained the same. I care more about this number than the quality and strength. I want to see how many channels SD & HD they are putting per EMM Provider. Soon we will have a complete analysis of compression ratio of VOOM for each HD channel and we will compare that to D* to see the differences. Stay tune. A lot more to come.

Don't know... as you can see there's not much bandwith left (assuming I am right)? Tell you what I rather have Hustler-HD instead of SpiceHD. We will get SpiceHD programming on Playboy-HD (same company). Also, VOOM should start moving to MPEG-4 or they are going to run into problem.

ESPN-HD should be next...Look for it in the near future. As to prediction, let me not take credit for that as it was announced in a press release and we knew that it was coming.

I don't know how close the problem is. They have redundant programming with 2 HBO HDs, Showtimes. Plus, NFL-HD is pretty much a waste. They could clear up some channels quick, I think.

those living in the west coast, will disagree about the HBO-HD West. NFL-HD right now is inactive except for the game of the week. They can put the programming in the demo channel and free space for one more channel.

I Went To VOOM Because of the East & West Coast Feeds. If VOOM Went Tthe Way of D* & E* and Only Do East Coast Feed I Am Out Of Here & Back To D*.

If Voom gets itself into an HD bandwidth problem, I suggest they reduce the number of channels assigned to the exclusive 21. Cinema 10 could easily be carried on 3 channels given the very frequent repeats. Eventually, Cinema 10 could be handled on one channel when the Voom HD DVR is released. The HD channels in the 120 - 130 range could easily be combined and carried in about 5 channels.

Personally, I have yet to watch a Voom SD program as I subscribe to all of the SD channels offered by Dish Network.

I agree with you... but VOOM might not agree with us. From a marketing point of view they won't do that just yet. They might change to MPEG-4 before doing this.
