Shanahan Out In Denver

Broncos owner Pat Bowlen on Tuesday relieved Mike Shanahan of his position as head coach and executive vice president of football operations. Said Bowlen in a statement: "After giving this careful consideration, I have concluded that a change in our football operations is in the best interests of the Denver Broncos."
Wow.... Thats shocking

he was fired for his role as vp of football operatiions not because of his coaching. please read a little about this mans career before people around here say he is overrated as a head coach. opinions aren't facts. he stunk as a gm or vp not as a coach.read on what he did as vp for denver and you'll see. unfortunatley you fire him for one thing you have to for the other.

Another year where his team couldn't close the deal, he's a great coach but hasn't delivered in a weak division for the last few years.

Jim Haslett apparently had an interesting weekend and got an early Christmas gift form his players:

Apparently the Ram players signed a petition at the hotel and sent it over to the management asking for Haslet to be retained for next year . . . I doubt a management team is ever going to go against their players if that is true!

Personally I find this news stunning! I have Shanahan in the top 10 NFL coaches of all-time. He's a 2 time Super Bowl winner, a great offensive mind and game-time motivator.

Screw Cowher. I think Cleveland just found their #1 new head coaching candidate! Pay the man Jammies! :D

The NEWS itself is stunning because I never thought they would get rid of him outside of him admitting he was a convicted felon.

Now, a top ten ALL-TIME coach....no....sorry. Those Denver Broncos teams that won the Super Bowls were COMPLETE teams with very good coordinators that could have won with my 8 year old daughter coaching the team.

could have won with my 8 year old daughter coaching the team.

that's a pretty bold statement and a strong opinion. maybe she can coach the lions:D she'll probably do a better job than the last few coaches there (no disrespect intended salsa )
I do agree and at the same time it's my opinion that he isn't in the top 10 coaches of all time.still to me he's a good coach. no matter who the coach is you always need a solid coaching staff too.

I think the teams were THAT GOOD. Maybe it came out a tad strong.

what i'm hearing now is they wanted him to give up his gm role and stick to coaching. he said no way. see ya. maybe we'll have to wait till tomorrow for clearer details.

Gulp. This is the one sticking point with Shanny. He's an excellent coach, but doesn't always draft well. You'd think coaching & GM duties would be too much for 1 person to manage.

If he wasn't so stubburn, my dream combo for the Browns would be Shanny Coaching and Scott Pioli GMing.

Correction. Meant for it to mean "top 10 coach in the Super Bowl era".

1 thing can definitely be said for Shanny. He's gonna be 1 pissed mother and motivated as hell to prove Denver was wrong in firing him.

IMO, Cleveland needs to do everything in his power to get this guy. He's still going to be paid from his contract with the Broncos, so he won't command a large salary. If we offer him anywhere near the $9 million/year that we offered Cowher, I'd imagine he'd be on the next plane to C-Town!

It's gonna be nice to know he will now hate the Broncos even MORE than his hatred toward the Al Davis and the Raiders.:D

true. those days of coach and gm as one are pretty much over. it's too much for one person to handle. if you get shanny he'll be a great coach and as salsa said you'll need the right personnel around him. but as gm shanny did do a horrible job. lots of bad draft picks especially on the defensive side. he's more offensive minded but of course you all know that already. there is a chance your dream team of shanny and pioli might come true. the browns are currently interviewing mangini which to me isn't that much of a step from romeo. we'll see.

I agree. I don't even know why they're wasting their time with Mangina.
