Scam call or legit?

The family numbers are white-listed and ring with a distinctive tone. Everything else goes to electronic voice messaging!

About a year ago I had the reverse happen. I called DISH, but accidentally dialed 888-333-DISH instead of 800-333-DISH. They were ready for me and I almost fell for it, but instead of the usual "I see you are one of our best customers" and telling me the name on the account, the operator made some excuse about the menu system computer being down and asked for account and name info.

That's Frank up in Cleveland.

I had to give a deposition in that case because he was representing himself as Dish and telling customers they had a free upgrade and would switch them to Directv. Many customers didn't know they where being switched.

Now they just sell customers a bogus protection plan

Claude, I'm sure that Frank, up in Cleveland, is a reasonable person who would sell his 888 number to Dish Network for a nice, tidy sum of money...
