SatelliteGuys.US DishNetwork Uplink Activity Discussion - Week Ending 11/17/2007

Do you think there any "danger" of NY locals going spotbeam? Or do you think they're simply going to add additonal spotbeams.

No one knows for sure. But if I was DishNetwork and I had a spotbeam satellite firing up at 61.5, I wouldn't have any LiL's on CONUS TP's.

You never know... just wait it out and see what happens.

I am sure it has been mentioned before..........but when is E* putting new birds up? I am guessing that we will get new HD channels once they have new satellites in the sky.

All 4 HD LIL's on 61.5 are CONUS right now. I think you can count on them going to spots when E* actually lights up the spotbeams. No reason to keep them CONUS since E* cannot offer DNS.

What are the odds of that happening given the lack of launch vehicles? An analyst friend of mine thinks Dish will be lucky to get one in orbit by June. What have you heard, Scott?

I don't think vehicles are the problem. Schedules were messed up because of previous launch failures and subsequent investigation/repairs at Baikonur and Sea Launch. SES is still saying Feb. 2008 for AMC-14. And we'll have to see how Sea Launch's schedule for E-11 shakes out now that they're back in operation.

Looking at the uplink report, is Dish really going to be able to get 54 spots beam downlinks out of R1/E12? It looks like they are going to be going down the east coast and some of the SE. It would be a stunning move if they are able to pull 54 new LiL DMAs out of R1. Thing would look good for getting LiL HD if you lived on the east coast.

How many downlinks are possible from the mysterious R1? It would be nice to know a spot beam TP count like we know about the other Dish satellites.

Dish would look really competitive for a while if they are able to suddenly pull off LiL HD to 100 markets.

ok I gotta ask. I been on this board a while and trying desperately not to look like a total n00b.... but what does "LiL" stand for?

So unless Buffalo spotbeams in HD are in this plan I may be in the danger of losing local HDs (NYC going spotbeam). All conjecture, but this would be a breaking point for me.

Yup this plan would have me in the Buffalo market without a spotbeam... So I would no longer live in NYC and be without HD locals. This would be the final straw to move to D*. If I hear one other person talking about how I should just do OTA i'll go crazy. This may work great for you but where I live it does not.

You can look at http://ekb.dbstalk.com/pictures/rldbs1.gif to see where the spots are, note 1-9 run down the east coast and do the southeast US.

As you can see on the report with the question mark on the spotbeam we don't know what spotbeams will be what until we get some hints with affiliate names. So it might not be 1-9 but then again it makes perfect sense to light up the 61.5 served areas though.

I would think Buffalo would have a better shot at HD locals than I do. I'm resigned to the fact that I'll be the last person on the face of North America with HD locals. I live in extreme south-central Alabama (about an hour north of Destin, FL) and get the Montgomery locals. We're about 75 miles from any of the towers and there's a pretty good size hill to the north of my house. I'm not even sure if all of the Montgomery stations broadcast HD. I think the NBC station does, but that may be the only one.

Just got my 625 today. Question about the remote...
