Dish's logic is always motivated by $$ (even if only perceived), so I expect it's a combination of the DMAs where they tend to gain the most new upgrades to analog LiLs minus whatever it costs them to get rights for HD feeds.

Because there's no additional charge when the HD LiLs are added to a customer's existing SD LiLs package, Dish only makes money when they gain new SD LiLs subs.

I wonder how much longer they are going to continue to let D* beat them with the hd lil's? I get them OTA so its no biggie, but I remember the first time I had E* in Mobile, Al, they were actually beating D* to the SD local party and thats why I went with them.

Very surprised they let D* beat them on HD locals.

I see from the posts above what the issue could be.

D* is doing HD LILs because they had no better options. I think they would have loved to put up more national HD, but they didn't have any CONUS transponders available.
...And consider that Spaceway (the internet people) went bust because cable and dsl penetrated better than Spaceway thought it would, so three very expensive satellites became available for HD locals (Spaceway 1 and 2, plus the ground spare). D* bought them faster than E* could, so that's why they are leading the HD LIL race...

When I had D* here in Sc, we had a 2nd dish for 72.5 which was sd locals. The HD locals(as far as I know) are in the range of the 5lnb and 72.5 is not one of them.

Dish is in business to make money.... That's not the point though unless the cities that now have sub-channel guide data also are cities that Dish carries the HD locals for. Is that the case ??
