Satelliteguys Uplink Report Activity Discussion for the week ending 10/20/07

Can we get this back to uplink report discussion? I really am interested in everyone's opinions about D* and E*, but would prefer to see uplink discussion when I see new activity here in this thread. Or maybe I just haven't had enough coffee and y'all really ARE discussing uplink activity..... in which case..... nevermind

:D

We could if there was something to discuss.

I'd rather have Battlestar Galactica in glorious HD on UniversalHD where they don't have constant popups advertising that Ghost Hunters is coming on and don't constantly have their logo burning in my screen.

Yeah, Sci-Fi's popups are insanely annoying. Too bad Universal HD shows the seasons a year to late. I'm not that patient.

I really can't understand how anyone is thinking about leaving and going to Direct. Yes, everyone has their right to do as they want... and I welcome competition. I'm happy Direct is getting their HD game on.. finally... it's good for everyone. But I cannot even imagine leaving DISH.

I enjoy their service so much, and it goes beyond the HD. Yes, their are some things I do not like.. such as the Customer Service located overseas... and some of the upgrade cost I have had to endure at times, but DISH offers so much more that I do appreciate and value. I've been with DISH for many years, and I am very happy with their product. I especially love their DVR. I'm not going to bail on them just because someone finally caught up with them on the HD programming. Dish has been the leader for a longgggg time, and just when someone catches up... everyone says bail!?!? What gives? No one seems to have any patience. Sure, it is frustrating not knowing what is coming.. when.. or what the long term goals are, or how the possible sale may affect DISH. All I can say for myself is.. I'm hanging around... with patience... and LOYALTY.

Besides, there is no -substantial- HD that is available that DISH doesn't carry right now that I absolutely MUST have. I might want it, but I can live a while longer without it. My DVR and External Drive can't handle the recording space right now with all the HD we already have anyway!

Seriously though... where is the customer loyalty?

I just wanna say I appreciate those who have noted their support for Dish and are being patient. It's really getting old hearing nothing but complaints about DISH not adding HD (even certain mods here).... we all want it.. we know DISH still wants to be the leader... we don't know what they are up to.. we just have to trust they are doing something.

I must say I agree with some others who have posted here before... If you want to leave DISH.. or you have left DISH... then thats great... good for you.... but what input do you have that benefits US and this part of the BOARD now? It has become way to negative. If you can't wait for DISH.... then move on.. it may not get any better very quickly.

They should show it later the same season, not a season later. Look at Torchwood on HDnet, it runs a week and a half after the first run in SD on BBC America.

I agree with you JEFFRO. I can't understand why only a few E* and D* people have to be in attack mode all the time to try to convince people that what they have is better than what someone else has. And, what's even funnier is, they are unofficial spokesmen for large corporations who don't even compensate them for their actions. The debate is stupid and a waste of time. Back to the uplink discussion.

TBS's picture quality has been very good.

The playoff's have been great. I now know a whole lot more about the Colorado Rockies that before, and have become a fan from watching them on TBS HD.

I might even start watching other stuff in HD on TBS.

Fitzie

If I didn't leave last year when they didn't have FSN-HD for college football, I'm certainly not going to leave over Weather Channel HD or CNN-HD.

One day, high definition will just be 'definition'. I wonder if there was this much crying over the switch from black and white to color.

How long did that transition take?

Yeah some folks would complain if you gave the gold to do it's to heavy to carry. When its all said and done most all major TV Providers will carry the same amount of HD Channels just like SD. One day SD will be gone and HD will be the standard format for everything. I just want my Cowboys to Beat KSU this Weekend.. :)

I agree with you Fitzie, the playoffs were very good, but I disagree with the quality of the other programming. I have yet to see anything else in HD. You can keep the stretched/distorted picture and all the pop ups and banners, and snipes, and bugs, and any other crap they interrupt programming with. If you think that's acceptable then that's your opinion, but I don't agree. It's yet another channel I won't watch.

UHD will not be coming any time soon. I know from where I speak. I edited a 4k movie and we've had so many problems just getting it shown at that resolution.

That's 4096x2048, forgetting just the bandwidth necessary to carry that much data, and the cost of even owning a set capable of displaying that, movie production companies are not even ready for this stuff, TV stations are still trying to justify costs for HD conversion.... so as far as UHD goes.... well... my kids may be complaining about that one in 20 years.
