Re-use Dish 500 with Dish 1000 Plus for 5or 6 sat locations?

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I'm going to upgrade my Dish 500 setup to a Dish 1000 Plus with DPP tech, and am wondering if can re-use the Dish 500 to add more satellite/orbital locations, as the dish is already on the roof. All HW is owned and self-installed.

I'm not looking for responses about "why" I need to do this, but rather "can" I do this. Think mad scientist.

With the Dish 1000+, I'll have 110, 118.7, 119 and 129.
It looks like I might be able to add either 61.5 or 148 (for CBS West) with a different LNB and DP21?

Something like this, but to keep the 118.7 location:

I have 2 ViP211's, one about 60 feet of coax run from the dish, and the other about 150 feet of coax run away, both on RG6 coax.

My ZIP code is 92008, and I'll have a HD metal pack.
So, questions:

1. Should I add anything to improve the signal strength for the second receiver?
2. Can I re-use the Dish 500?
3. Do I need a different LNB on the Dish 500 that supports DPP tech, of 61.5 or 148 locations?

4. Do I use a DP21 before each receiver, and after the DPP44? Does this knock the entire setup back to legacy?
5. Do I use 2x DPP44's?
6. Is there any way to keep this as all DPP technology?
7. Any updates to the release schedule of the DPP64? :D

Thanks for the comments!

5 satellite, yes. Use a DP21 off the output of the DPP44
6 satellite isnt available yet (that I know of)

CBS-HD is not available to anyone as a distant anymore. If HD locals are available in your market, you get those.

1. Shouldn't need to.
2. Yes, but you didn't say which LNB configuration it has. See the bottom of Instructions for Adding 61.5
3. First choice is a DP Dual
4. Yes. No, just regular DP.
5. A second DPP44 will just give you more receiver outputs, you can't cascade one into the other. (connecting them through the sat pass-through ports is called trunking)
6. I don't see where you're using DPP now as you only list 2 single-tuner receivers so the switch can be thought to be operating in "DP mode." DP Plus adds selective band translation and re-stacking to feed a dual-tuner receiver with DPP Separator (or a legacy receiver) from a single run of RG6.

Success! 5 sats with Dish 1000+ & Dish 500!

Finally set this up last night:

-110, 118, 119, and 129 with the Dish 1000+, fed into the DPP44, and from there into one side of a DP21.
-61.5 with the Dish 500 and Dish Pro single LNB, fed into another side of a DP21.

(FWIW, I originally tried to use a Dish Pro Plus dual LNB, but I think the switch interfered with the DPP44, as it wouldn't see 61.5 with the DPP dual LNB.)

The Dish 1000 points almost due south, and the Dish 500 61.5 points almost due east. Almost looks like it is reflecting off the roof. :p

The fish channel (HD demo) and Pentagon channel on 61.5 are pretty nice. Anything else I should look for? Have the Top 100 and HD pack.

Thanks for your great advice!

can you explain on how u setup 615 on SW21 again. or may be take pic or draw it out in paint.

Sure!

1. Connect one output from the DPP44 to the "1 to dish" input on the DP21.
2. Connect the 5th satellite location (61.5, 121, 148, etc) to the "2 to dish" input on the DP21
3. Connect the receiver to the "To receiver" output on the D21.

There is a pdf somewhere on here with a drawing of sort of the same idea, but of course I can't find it now. Here's a pic of the printout. Just change the two dishes on the left to the Dish 1000+, and the dish on the right to 61.5, or whatever 5th orbital you want.

PS. The total RG6 quad cable run for the second receiver from LNB to receiver is 320 feet. Probably about 290 feet from the DPP44 to the receiver, and the signal strength is the same with the first receiver: 85 to high 90's, depending on the satellite location. No amplifiers whatsoever.

ok so you can only do this to two single tuners( with two dp 21's/ two runs off the dp dual) to one single tuner receiver with one dp-21
Got it.

You in Northern CA or there abouts?

No.

With 1 DP-21, you can run a single cable to 1 single tuner receiver.
With 2 DP-21's, you can run 2 cables, 1 each to two single tuner receivers; or
with 2 DP-21's, you can run 2 cables to 1 dual tuner receiver.

As stated, even though you have a DPP-44 which supports a single cable to a dual tuner receiver (using a DPP Separator), you lose the DishPro Plus functionality when feeding the DP-21 and only have DishPro functionality, and therefore will need two cables to a dual tuner receiver.
