PC Owners Thread

Nice! That PC will be able to keep up for years at 1080p.

Remember to change your display settings in Overwatch to 1080p 144Hz. When I got my 1440p 144Hz monitor a couple weeks ago I noticed that Overwatch was still set to 1440p 60Hz even though none of my other games even had a setting for monitor refresh rate.

The rest of my games just worked automatically after I changed my monitor refresh rate from 60Hz to 144Hz in Nvida Control Panel. The other thing to keep in mind is that you have to use a DisplayPort or DVI cable. HDMI doesn't support 144Hz. The monitor probably comes with the cable you need though.

Yeah Overwatch is weird like that. I still will never forget when I almost lost my mind and the refresh rate was set to 24fps (without my permission) and my performance went to crap. I thought my video card was broken or something.

So if you're big into gaming on the go and through some slight of fortune you have $9,000 laying around, I think I have the computer for you!

Who would want that when this laptop with 3 4K G-Sync screens built in was also at CES? I'm really not sure who they are building these things for. What is the point of having 3 4K screens when the included GTX 1080 isn't even capable of handling 60 FPS in many games on a single 4K monitor?

Edit: Never mind. I just watched the video and they aren't actually planning on selling this right now. It's just a prototype.

Apparently someone REALLY wanted it because the prototypes were stolen from CES and Razer is offering a reward to whoever can help recover them.

Lord Gaben graced the world with some time yesterday to do a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything.)

G2A, the notorious key reseller that PewDiePie and others still allows as a sponsor in spite of all the complaints about it (including one developer saying they'd rather have their games pirated than purchased through their site) did an AMA on Reddit. Questions about G2A protecting purchases came up, and one user came in and basically proved to the world that G2A is full of sh*t and does nothing to validate legitimacy of keys, and that it's easy for someone who sells just 1 valid key to then sell a bunch of invalid ones, which screws over both developers and buyers. The user did this during the AMA and provided photo proof. G2A then didn't do themselves any favors, when instead of acknowledging the issue and pledging to work on a fix, instead decided to lock down on just THAT user's account.

Needless to say the story went everywhere and now G2A is on damage control (again.)

Oh, and the user that exposed all this on the AMA is now being d*cked around by G2A and they won't let him cash out his money.

I only have a small amount of sympathy for people who get ripped off by G2A. There are tons of sources showing that this happens to people all the time. There is also a reason they are able to sell the exact same product for a fraction of the cost of legitimate retailers. If it looks to good to be true it probably is.

You can now try Origin Access (EA Access for PC Users) for free for 7 days.

https://www.origin.com/usa/en-us/store/origin-access

I didn't realize until now that Origin Access is quite different from EA Access. There's a bunch of games there that you wouldn't expect to be there, such as really old games like Populus, Ultima, and Wing Commander games. They also have games that aren't EA games, like the Trine and Torchlight games, and unique choices like This War of Mine.

I will wait until the early access period for Mass Effect Andromeda starts. Either that or I will just pay $5 for the month of March and also play through Mirror's Edge Catalyst.

If for some reason you STILL haven't updated your Windows OS and are still rocking XP or Vista, you have yet ANOTHER reason to upgrade (other than the numerous security issues as well as program compatibility.) Blizzard has announced that by the end of 2017, they will cease supporting those operating systems.

Steam is modifying its review system again. Now, games that were gifted to people don't count towards a game's overall score.

This has been met with rather critical response, as many people point out that they were gifted games by friends and thus aren't just promo copies that usually garner positive reviews.
