Paramount +

Same here.
As I posted way, way above, the HDR marker was not there for Matlock on the screen, but when I started watching it, Smart HDR popped on ( and again, it only does that when HDR data is there).

Again, it could be the wrong data, but it was one of the best video quality for a TV show I have seen and the only reason I would watch the show, because it looked incredible.

Not a Roku TV, a TCL QM85 that uses Google TV.
Sorry for the confusion. I thought a TCL runs Roku OS but I see some run Roku OS and some run Android TV.

Well, without better documentation from TCL, I don't know how we can be sure what Smart HDR is, but I doubt they changed it from one year to the next, whatever it is.

The confusing part is why doesn't the HDR kick on for others watching Matlock or other shows without the HDR tag?

I believe I am the only one in this thread using the newest version of Google TV, everyone has been using WebOS(LG), Roku or Apple.

But I just tried it on my 2024 Roku Ultra ( hooked direct to the TV for now), Smart HDR did not pop on and was not available to select.

I will say, using the Roku, the video quality was not as nice, I tried both vivid and Cinema ( also calibrated) , maybe half as sharp, I then went to the TV’s app and the wow factor kicked right in.

And I really do not want to watch Matlock, but the video quality looks great.

I doubt they did either, like I wrote, if the ISF Tech did not remove it as an option, I still would be able to select it for SDR content.

What about the show listings, do they show HDR in your Roku app like they do on the TV app?
Have not checked yet, will later.
And do the specific movies and shows we've been mentioning here trigger HDR on your TV (Seal Team season 7, NCIS Sydney)?
On the Google TV app, it showed both HDR and DV, but it played in DV and only those picture options were available.

I am running tvOS 18.1 on the Apple TV which is the newest version available. I still believe it is the Paramount+ programmers not doing due diligence in making sure the different device apps are all the same. They must have separate teams for each device who never compares notes.

Different devices have different functionality, so implementing the same thing everywhere isn't always that straightforward.

I am talking about all devices should either have HDR, DV or not. I do understand the different remotes have different ways to operate but that is not a reason to make the episodes view differently across the devices.

I agree they should. However, the reality is most modern apps are developed in a single environment, and then automation builds the specific versions for each platform. Since there aren't dedicated teams for each app on each platform (iOS, Android, WebOS, Roku, Amazon FireTV, tvOS, Tizen, etc.), the automation is very complex. Trying to get every feature to work exactly the same across multiple Operating Systems, each with a variety of devices that need to be supported is a lot. The QA process is only going to allow apps to ship that are stable, so, if the method that works to deliver a specific version of HDR content happens to work on GoogleTV but not on Roku, then the Roku app will not ship with that feature turned on. Both the hardware and software differences are going to result in potential variation within the same app on different platforms.

Yet it is only Paramount + with these issues across different devices.

No, as I explained before, I have issues with the Movies Anywhere app, on the TV’s app, only get HDR/DD+, even if the movie comes in DV/Atmos and says so.

On the Roku app, it works perfect, I assume there are other app with different issues across all the other devices.

I think the differences with Paramount+ are only for broadcast TV shows. The movies on P+ doesn't seem to be an issue.

Nah, I've seen this kind of thing a lot. People used to complain all the time about Prime Video not supporting the same resolutions/HDR/etc. from one device to the next. I still sometimes don't get HDR on Disney+ for no reason on my Roku, but it works fine on the AppleTV, or vice versa.

Seal Team is 4k, HDR, Dolby Vision, Dolby Audio

My projector shows the codec and also has different settings per the source quality/codec.

I'm using a Fire cube. NCIS Origins is the only other CBS show that has HDR/dolby vision available. All the others are just 4k and some 5.1.
