NHL 2011-12 Season

Oh my goodness...Crosby out indefinitely again. That is terrible news for the entire league. :(

I'm not going to steal Bill's thunder, but I will say I just noticed that Detroit is playing Pittsburgh tonight and, shockingly enough, it is NOT the national TV game on Versus!

LOL Yeah, that surprised me too. They're not gonna show inarguably the best two franchises over the last 20 years, but instead Versus is televising San Jose at Colorado (9:00pm ET).

Sharks-Avalanche is still a good game, but it's not Pens-Wings.

On the NHL Network, they are showing the top 10 rivalries (also can be found on DVD).

Here's the list:

10. Battle of Quebec
9. Flyers/Penguins
8. Red Wings/Blackhawks
7. Flyers/Rangers
6. Battle of Alberta
5. Penguins/Capitals
4. Red Wings/Avalanche
3. Battle of New York
2. Canadiens/Maple Leafs
1. Canadiens/Bruins

The Bruins snapped the Flyers seven game winnig streak, with a 6-0 win in Philly this afternoon. The Bruins now have a league best 21 wins, are #2 in goals scored with 108, and #1 in goals allowed with 61.

I don't usually like to toot the horn of one of my teams, but this Bruins team is SCARY good and SCARY deep.

Just think how much better they will be once Tyler Seguin gets his head out of his ass.

NHL Satellite Hot Stove on Saturday night discussing the impact of concussions, and how to reduce them. It's not out of the question that we'll never see Sydney Crosby on the ice again, and there are a LOT of other players out with concussions too...including Marc Staal, the Rangers' all-star defenseman.

This is a HUGE problem for the NHL.

Take the helmets off.

Think about that before you respond ...

It would also cut down on High Sticking which went WAY up when the helmets were made mandatory.

I agree with what you say about high sticking, but sticks are now what's causing all these concussions. It's more elbows than anything.

It's more elbows is what your saying, getting hit into the glass ?

Thats the way I see it.

Take the helmets off and you won't be getting the high sticks and th elbows to the head at the glass.

I'm not saying what's necessarily my opinion, but hockey commentators all blame the stickwork on the helmets, but not the elbows.

I tend to agree...so many of the elbows are hits to the jaw from guys like Kaleta, Cooke, etc., where the helmet is not even a factor.

A lot of football think the same about the NFL...put James Harrison back in a leather helmet without a facemask, and he's not attacking with his head anymore. In the NFL the helmet is used as a weapon as much as it's used for protection.

why are you using james harrison as an example in a thread about the NHL??? if you wanted to use the NFL as an example you could've used any other player.
