NFL Reinstates Michael Vick

Andy Reid should be the perfect coach for Vick. He's used to parenting troubled kids. It's well documented the issues he's had with his own family in the past...
If by saying "parenting troubled kids" you mean experience dealing with felons, well then yes...

A judge who presided over one of the cases involving the Reid brothers referred to the house that Andy Reid raised his sons in as a "drug emporium."

I am really surprised the Eagles signed him with the backups they already have.

Wow, I listened to 610 WIP this morning for a while. There is extreme sentiment on both sides of the issue. With Angelo Cataldi presiding the show is always a little over the top, but today is very different. It's crazy. There are some very unhappy people. I stopped listening, as it was getting a little intense and repetitive.

It will be very interesting to hear Howard Eskin's take on this, he always has his finger on the pulse of the Philly sports fan. Actually, in many cases he is the pulse of the Philly sports fan.

Just listening to Sirius NFL. The airwaves are flooded with Vick talk. A few comments.....

- The BEST possible case for Vick is also the WORST possible case for the Eagles. Think about it: Say Vick comes in and shows signs of greatness and excitement. McNabb is towards the end of his career. Philly fans might want to see more of Vick. This is a fanbase that demanded to see more of Randall Cunningham when he used to come in on 3rd downs when Ron Jaworski was the main QB. If the same happens with Vick, now there's a QB controversy. How will McNabb handle that? He already has a fragile ego. Now, the team, fans and locker room is divided. The best case scenario is also the worst case scenario.

- The Vick subject is the most polarizing subject in the NFL and should be the subplot throughout this season. News of Vick signing with Philly broke in the middle of the Eagles/Pats game last night. As news spread throughout the stadium, there were mixed reviews among fans. Some were thrilled, while others were disgusted and actually got up and left the stadium in anger! On one of the Philly papers this morning, there's a headline titled: "Hide Your Dogs Philly". This city and fanbase is truly divided.

Not sure if anything with Vick can be normal anymore, but this is one of the most bizarre situations and cities he could walk into. I know Tony Dungy did what he said he would do, his lobbying on behalf of Vick got him a contract, but this is going to be a rough situation for him.

The Philly fan base is like no other. Unlike some of the Halloween acts around the league, Eagle fans are what other fan bases pretend to be...mean, passionate and brutally unforgiving. Their love/hate relationship with Donovan McNabb is legendary, and he's not even a convicted felon.

And McNabb himself, there is another story. Talk about thin skin...he should be a SG forum poster, he'd fit right in! :D

Relax, I kid because I love. :p

McNabb will say all the right things right now, but as the season progresses...watch out.

This should be fun to watch! Vick is being "mentored" and coached by two of the worst fathers in the public eye.

I listened to WIP this morning, I would say that it is about 80-20 against Vick, good luck in Philly.

You can actually tribute those leaving were because they were pist that the Eagles signed Vick??!! Wow! Where did you read that? I would like to see that.

That was the report from Lincoln Financial Field. As news broke, it spread like wild fire amongst fans throughout the stadium. It's well reported that a lot of fans are angry and some of them were so pissed (according to Sirius NFL and their sources), they left "got up and left".

WHY good lucky Philly....this is not gonna make or brake their season. They were gonna make the playoffs either way and their season does not depend on Vick.

Hart can correct me if I'm wrong, but if he listened to WIP this morning like I did his 'good luck Philly' was not said in respect to wins and losses. The fan base is extremely divided right now with some very strong sentiment on both sides, but more on the side of being against the signing of Vick.

Philly is a rough sports town to begin with, much less forgiving then even NY which is so close geographically and shares New Jersey as a fan base, and this has become a very polarizing topic.

Yeah...like their dislike for the signing will stop the Eagle fans from coming to games or watching....LOL!! This is THE BEST TEAM in the NFC East and my pick to win the NFC. This will blow over because they care more for their football than they do about whether this is a bad PR for the Eagles.

Not Hart, but I did get the same vibe from the callers chiming in on Sirius NFL.

I'm sure the Giants will have something to say about that....

PS, can Vick play TE?

You guys are acting as if the Eagles playoff lives depend on the Vick signing....it doesn't...they will win the East whether he is great or a flop.

Not saying that at all. I am saying the NFC East is really good and they won't just waltz into a division title like you suggest. A few hiccups along the way could derail a season very quickly though....

I neither SUGGESTED, HINTED or STATED they would "waltz into a division title"...THAT is suggesting that they would win it easy. I have said NOTHING of the sort. I said they are the best team and will win the division and the NFC.....

...BIG difference in what I said, and what you are suggesting...;)

As usual we're putting a mish-mash of related but different issues together. Let's try to separate them.

1. Right now many more people are very upset that the Eagles signed Vick than are happy. This is for both personal and football reasons, and both should be respected. Like it or not there are people who will have difficulty rooting for Vick. Period. Winning games will change that...to some extent for some people, but not completely. Not many will turn in their season tickets, as Vick could be long gone a year from now...or even less, who knows. He has to prove he can still play football too.

2. For football reasons, many people don't think this is good for Donovan McNabb. He's very sensitive, and will say the right things just like he did at first about TO. But having a Michael Vick hanging over his head may not be a good thing.

3. While some may think so, the Eagles are far from runaway division favorites. They were something like 5-5 going into the Thanksgiving night game last year where McNabb re-found his game...and if Kevin Kolb had played even OK in the second half of their loss four days earlier (the Bengals? I forget), McNabb may have been done for the season.

4. Speaking of which, if McNabb has another long swoon (which he's more than capable of), don't pencil Vick in just yet to return to his Falcon glory days...the glory of which can be debated as well.
