NFL preseason 2010-2011 Official discussion thread!

It was a 5th round pick.... the same compensation given up for Santonio Holmes, one of the top WRs in the league last year. He'll miss 4 games next season, but his rights alone are worth at least the 5th the Jets gave up.

ahh thanks for the info :up .

Almost need a running NFL Legal thread for all this crap... Browns RB Chris Jennings arrested for suspicion of assault on a door guy at The Velvet Dog.

Tom Cable made some wishy washy statements about their quarterback situation and being in the mix for McNabb, PFT points out that the Raiders didn't go and call Schefter some evil rumor monger but stayed silent, and that Cable didn't mention anything about Gradkowski's injury and the Boller trade that happened shortly after the interview and that it's starting to look like they may seriously consider Clausen at number 8. Tom Cable hints that Raiders pursued Donovan McNabb | ProFootballTalk.com

I mentioned this a couple pages back.....GOD oh mighty, I hope they are not.:(

Now that I read your post from PFT...they are just making wild assumptions.....from the same article:

Reading Cable's comments between the lines, it sure sounds like they were in the running for McNabb. At that makes us think that, if Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen is available at No. 8, the Raiders very well might take him.

Salsa, how do you think the Raiders will do against the AFC West this year?

Chiefs are rebuilding, Broncos got weaker w/the loss of Marshall, Chargers still have their number.

Of the teams in the AFC West, I think an argument could be made that Pioli's Kansas City Patriots are the only team improving over last year, with the improvements to their line, bringing back Chambers, signing Thomas Jones, and bringing in Romeo and Charlie for coordinators.

The Broncos are sorely lacking a #1 WR now, Eddie Royal showed last year how invisible he can be, and are going to look like the Clevaland Browns this year... as 1 QB does bad people will clamor for the backup to be played, with Brady Quinn familiar with that argument. Broncos are also changing from their old successful zone blocking scheme to a more traditional running game, been a while since I read that though. The Broncos are going to be bad-to-mediocre this year as their defense gets another year older, and McDaniels will be fired, with a legacy of dumping 2 of the better players the franchise has had on it's roster since Elway left.

The Chargers have dropped veterans as if they didn't matter, and I think they'll look a bit more human this year. They will probably still take the division, but not so handily.

The Raiders are setup to just do what they did last year... questions at QB will sink half their season and depending how long it takes to get that settled this time they could by default already be vying for 3rd or 4th in the division, dueling with Denver for the cellar. Some success at QB could easily translate into 2nd place in the division for Oakland, but it's hard to imagine them getting it together under current management. Trading for Kameron Wimbley is probably the next best move behind the Chiefs acquisitions as far as the division improving.

If the 49ers are smart that's all he'll be used for there too, he's a pretty big bust at WR.

I wouldn't say he was a BIG bust as a WR ......

He wasn't a very good WR in college, he was picked WAY too high in the first place.
The Dolphins were desperate I guess, he's a very good Return guy, I thought the Dolphin's took him as a Return guy 1st and a WR second.

When he was in college he was NOT the # 1 WR.

I could agree with most of what you said, but I disagree with statement about the management, simply look at the fiasco at QB last year, injuries and the usual Raiders front office bull****, ANY other team would have folded to a 3-13 season. That same coaching staff that you doubt got wins against the defending SB champs on the road and win against playoff teams with a journeyman QB. It is OBVIOUS that if this team were to get good....not great QB play, they can easily win 9 games....like you said yourself.;)

I agree, as long as the WRs learned to catch in the offseason. Same goes for the Chiefs receivers, who dropped just as many if not more during the 2nd half of the year. Fargas gone is going to hurt though.

I don't think losing Fargas will hurt as much as people think. Michael Bush and a healthy McFadden will be very effevtive. IF....IF the offensive line can stay healthy, I see a monster season by both.

Your team could do A LOT worse than drafting Clausen. Personally, I think he'll be a very solid QB in this league.

I know he CAN be a solid QB in the NFL.....but there is a HUGE difference in what he will be paid being the 8th overall pick and say something like the 20th. And truth be told, we have signed ...4 QB, death match...let them sort that out. We have a couple of pressing needs.

Re: NFL 2010-2011 Official discussion thread!

Broncos took another step away from contending for the division today by sending scheffler to the lions.

Realistically, 3/4 of the AFC West should be pretty happy with 7 wins. I'll be disappointed if the Chiefs aren't at least 8-8. Will be easier to figure out once the schedule is out (2-3 game stretches away from home to open/close a season are lame) and could change my expectations for them.

In 2006 the Broncos drafted Cutler, Marshall, Scheffler and Dumerville. 3 are gone, and Dumerville is skipping out of voluntary workouts in a contract dispute (with $$ being the reason Brandon Marshall was moved). How do you see this as progress and Denver not slipping behind an improved Chiefs or surprising Raiders this season? Scheffler and Marshall had more yards and TDs than the rest of the receivers combined.
