NFL Lockout thread

Heh, that would have been a disaster, I wonder how many players could even live on $200k for like 20 months. They'd be starving well before a summer 2012 verdict on the lockout insurance case. Wonder how much an insurance policy with a $300m payout cost and who paid the premium...

Thankfully it probably won't come to any of that and there could be an agreement in principle for the new cba as early as today.

I would say about 1/3 of the NFL. The REAL rich guys have been smart enough to take care of their money...or so I think. Truth be told, we are ALL assuming what some of the players are doing with their money unless we see that car or that house. I need this lockout to end soon. My Dish contract has ended and I have been seriously considering Directv and getting the Sunday Ticket.

I heard this crazy arse news this morning... According to some reports, the two WR from San Diego that WERE going to be restricted FA, EITHER want to be come instant(unrestricted) FA or $10 million a piece! NOW, I do not know if there is any truth to that story, but I am gonna do some search. SUPPOSEDLY this little thing can become a thorny issue. I HIGHLY doubt it...but that would majorly suck if it came to this.

EDIT: Correction, it was JUST Vincent Jackson and OL Logan Mankins of NE.

Brees, Manning, Jackson and Mankins are seeing protection from the franchise tag. Reggie White got this protection as the lead plaintiff in the previous labor incident I believe.

Chris Kluwe has something to say about that... Twitter

It seems certain millioniares feel they won't make enough under the CBA so they are holding it up for a ransom.

Reportedly that's all been shelved, and Brees claims to never have wanted "special perks" ... but this was a known and expected thing for a while now. As soon as reports made it sound official (it was likely Kessler and CAA asking for it, not Brees himself) then the huge backlash began and it was only several hours after that, that Brees started the debunking and it was leaked that no special benefits for the named plaintiffs would be sought.

Basically they got caught with their hand in the cookie jar which worked in the last labor disagreement, but not in the age of social media.

Owners vote IN FAVOR of the new CBA, 31-0 with the Raiders abstaining(sp?) from voting!

On a personal note, f#@%ing Al Davis!! Why does he NEED to be a f#@%ing rebel all the time?! Damn he is so f@#%ing frustrating.....

Players heads still firmly up their asses though.

"It puts onus on players to make a decision to agree; paints us into a corner with fans. We'll discuss tonight but the idea of reconstituting as a union as never been a slam dunk as the owners have already assumed."

Another high-ranking NFLPA official: "We are not happy here. We had to honor to not vote on an agreement that was not final (Wednesday). This is not over. This actually takes away incentives from players to vote yes tonight."

I saw this a moment ago.demaurice Smith sending out emails saying there are still some issues.what issues?! Can I wrap my hands around this guys neck now?

HOF game was already canceled today, if this isn't wrapped up this week I expect we'll miss more preseason games.

Goodell and Smith spent hours on the phone today, nothing should have been a surprise.

Basically the Owners put together what they wanted accepted and agreed on it and called it a done deal.
Sounds to me more like a Proposal to the players, not a finished deal.

Players side still discussing it ?
They said 8 pm, haven't heard anything one way or the other yet.

I heard the players have to have 3 votes, first vote to settle the Brady anti-trust lawsuit, second vote to re-certify the Players Union,& final vote will be on the CBA. I think they expect all of that to happen tomorrow.

Ok, didn't know that, thought we were expected to hear something tonight, guess not.
