NFL coaches that are out the DOOR!!

1. There's not a lot of BIGGER names than Holmgren. By saying he's going to hire someone from a lower branch isn't going out on much of a limb.

2. You're right. Philosophy is #1 with Holmgren as it should be. For this reason, he will not be hiring out of the Belichick or Chin Tree.

Another reason Mangini is probably out. He and Holmgren have two completely different offensive philosophies.

I hope Holmgren realizes that Mangini's philosophy is probably a better fit for December in Cleveland unless the Browns can somehow get the second coming of Brett Favre to play QB.

You would need the second coming of the first coming, though. ;)

Holmgren will put in someone with the same offensive philosophy as him.

There's been rumors Holmgren's new deal is for $50 million. We're also pursuing the top GM on the market in Tom Heckert. Browns owner Randy Lerner is still paying ex-coaches salaries in Romeo Crennel and maybe even Botch Davis. If he fires Mangini, that's another contract he'll have to pay.

If Lerner has all this money to throw around, WHY can't he pony up the cash and pay Josh Cribbs!?

ARGH! It's aggravating being a fan in this town!

Holmgren would not hire a Cowher anyway, or any other big name. Holmgren IS the big name.

He'll hire someone more along the lines of someone from a lower branch of his coaching tree...

I agree with this. what he needs is a guy that thinks like him and shares his philosophies on how to coach a team. perfect example of that is here in miami with parcells. before parcells brought sparano from dallas i had never heard of the guy. i never knew he was the offensive line coach in dallas.but i trusted parcells. turned out to be a pretty damn good head coach so far. he sees things pretty much the same way as parcells. all i can say to HD and skyhi is that with holmgren there you got nothing to worry about. trust him. he will have a huge positive effect to your team. i'm not saying you will win the SB for sure. but you will become a respectable team again very soon.

Breaking News: Eric Mangini & Staff to Stay for 2010!

From Mike Holmgren:

“I’m happy to announce that Eric Mangini will return as head coach of the Cleveland Browns in 2010. Over the past few weeks Eric and I have had a chance to talk on a number of occasions including our meetings over the last two days. I was able to gain some tremendous insight into his thought process and philosophies, and came away from our meetings very impressed. In my opinion, Eric has gained the respect and admiration of players, coaches and others in the organization, and with him continuing to lead the team I feel that we are headed in the right direction. Working together, our goal is to build on the strong tradition of this franchise and help get the Browns back to the playoffs.”

And…From Eric Mangini:

“I want to thank Mike for the opportunity to not only meet with him and share my thoughts and vision on what it takes to lead a team, but also to continue what we started here. I believe we made some real, tangible progress throughout the course of the season, culminating with wins in our final four games. I feel as though the culture and mindset that we established this year have laid the foundation for success in 2010 and beyond, and I’m looking forward to working with Mike and a general manager in making this happen.”

Very surprising...

My only issue is that we still don't have a GM hired. Mike Holmgren said in his original press conference that having the ENTIRE staff on board with the same philosophy is the most important thing for a franchise. (You and I even agreed on that same thing earlier today).

I just hope our GM is already hired, (just not officially) so there is no disagreements in the way this franchise will be run.

Wouldn't a GM is this type of management structure be pretty much a figure-head?? You know that any important personnel decisions would be made by Holmgren.

If they don't hire a GM, then maybe nobody can be blamed for doing something like keeping the future of the franchise on the bench while the starting QB puts up numbers sometimes worst than JaMarcus every weekend?

Considering how Mangini rallied the team down the stretch, I think he has earned another year.
if he doesn't get it done next season (much improved)i can see holmgren getting rid of mangini before the 2010 reg season ends. i understand that holmgren is looking for a little consistency right now within the team to later determine exactly what he needs to do.

At $1.4m/yr, however much the fans hate it, they just must not have plans to try and integrate him into the actual offense and keep him as a special teams player. Guy average 6.9 yards per carry over 55 carries... that's 1ypc more than Chris Johnson and Jamaal Charles, dude is a playmaker but clearly they must not want to build the offense around his talents.

If they trade him away which is likely what will happen (they might have to cut him if there's not enough interest and it's obvious he'll hold out) then fans will get over it if they can win games without him. If they don't, it will be the move that taints their entire season the same way McDaniels did in Denver shipping off Jay Cutler and chosing the last week of the season to bench Marshall and Scheffler.
