NFL coaches that are out the DOOR!!

You sorta forgot Juron and he has been out the door for over two months. Now his temp replacement Perry Fewell and entire staff is gone.

IMHO, the only way Marty ends up in Buffalo, is if his son is Asst Head Coach, - Offensive Coordinator, etc. The latest is Brian Billick or perhaps even Jim Harbaugh of Stanford.

Time will tell, and that is something Ralph Wilson doesn't alot of left to win a Super Bowl.

After an afternoon of negotiations produced an agreement, Mike Shanahan signed a five-year contract to become head coach and executive vice president of football operations for the Washington Redskins.

Under the terms of the new deal, Shanahan will team with Redskins executive vice president and general manager Bruce Allen, but Shanahan will have the ultimate authority on football decisions. Shanahan will be introduced as the Redskins head coach at a 2 p.m. ET news conference Wednesday.

As the contract was being signed at the Redskins' training complex, Shanahan and owner Dan Snyder posed together for a picture. Then, with the deal signed, Shanahan, his agent Sandy Montag, Allen and Snyder headed out for a celebration dinner in Washington, D.C.

The contract is worth approximately $7 million a year, the Denver Post reported on its Web site. Now that Shanahan has been hired elsewhere, the Denver Broncos, who fired Shanahan one year ago, will recoup $7 million in offset money over the next two seasons under the terms of the agreement they had with the coach.

Mike Holmgren is on the job. Day 1 Presser

Mike Holmgren was introduced to the media yesterday for his 2nd press conference (first in person and in Cleveland). A few notable things I took away from the presser....

1. Holmgren sounds like a straight shooter. Finally we have a voice for this franchise that tells it like it is and doesn't beat around the bush or withhold information. Those of you who are familiar with the Bill Belichicks of the world will understand what I'm talking about. For the longest time, our coaches/GM's have run this organization like it's some sort of secret operation, leaving the fans and media guessing about a countless number of things going on. Not anymore. Holmgren is the new voice and it appears he will speak often and candidly about all things related to the team. What a breath of fresh air!

2. Holmgren confirmed that he signed a 5 year contract.

3. Holmgren confirmed that Eagles GM, Tom Heckert will be in town today (Wednesday) to interview for the vacant GM position of the Cleveland Browns.

4. Eric Mangini and President Holmgren are due to meet again today. He said he would like to rule on Mangini by the end of the week.

5. One of the more telling points made by Holmgren was that he needs ALL members of the team to be on the same page in philosophy. Holmgren has always been a 4-3 guy, while Mangini is a 3-4 guy. That difference in philosophy might be too much to overcome.

6. Holmgren comes from quite an impressive and storied tree of coaching. He mentioned that he has had A LOT of old friends call him up asking for a job. It'll be interesting to see how his coaching staff shakes out.

PS, check out this tree. Impressive creds, right?! Wow, I'm thrilled with having our franchise in the hands of a guy like Holmgren. I am at ease with whatever decision he makes from here on out, including the decision on Mangini. In Holmgren I trust!

And where did Holmgren come from? Bill Walsh wasn't it?

Charlie Weis has been linked to the OC job in Chicago, but may end up in KC at the same position. Either way something is expected in the next few days.
i think he'll do well either place.good off coord. i'll make a guess here and say he goes to KC. ;)

It's sad what old age does to the mind.
Yeah. some people forget what Al did or meant to the NFL back in the day. I wasn't alive in the AFL/NFL times but have read plenty about it and have seen plenty of footage. I do remember the raiders of the early 80's. Al Davis was a very, very smart man......... and to be honest he was more lucid than i expected at his press conference on the lane kiffin situation. but you cant escape getting old
