They are also tied for last place in the division.

I would rather have then lose the rest of the games to get a head start on rebuilding, get a good draft slot and trade some older players for draft choices.

Hey now.....
Who you trading ?
You said older players, if they are not playing well enough for the Steelers, how do you expect to get better players in exchange ?

Controversial "bad" call aside,I still was impressed with how the Panthers played last night & especially how Cam Newton played. Unlike the Packers-Seahawks game last season you can't blame the replacement refs for such a bad call.

Lot of folks torn over this subject. Hmmmmmm..... Some say it was interference while others agreed it wasn't a catch-able ball and brady should've thrown it better to get the call. Within that mix you have smart folks with reasonable arguments for both sides, then you have the over emotional ones, some pat fans, some haters on either side of this call. Annoying. Still have the game on DVR so I'll look at it some more or maybe I won't have to since I'm sure ESPN will beat it to death......

I hate when games come down to called or uncalled penalties. Messed up a game which I found to be really great even though the team I was going for, lost.

1- Was the ball under thrown? YES
2- Was Gronk interfered with? YES

IMO, Considering the athletic ability of Gronk, is it possible he could have caught the ball, however the inteference prevented him from attempting to catch it.

Conclusion: Flag should have stood.

I hear ya and can't disagree with your point. What really bothers me is if you weren't going to call the interference then why throw the flag? Just don't. Throwing the flag then picking it back up really made the ref look worse.

I personally don't know how anyone can say that's NOT a penalty. Gronk was mugged in the end zone, pass underthrown or not. In what planet is that not a penalty?? BTW, I would say this as a neutral observer or even if the call benefitted the Patriots.

He only picked it up because of other officials talked him out of it. It's sorta like when the ball is tipped at the LOS. The back judge probably isn't aware of the tip, sees the contact down field and throws the flag.

A Dish thread had morphed into talking about last night's game. This is what I posted there, thinking I was in the Sports forum:

The other possibility is a hold, since it could be interpreted that the contact obstructed Gronk from going after the ball.

I officiate HS football and PI is clearly the most controversial call out there. Hell, even the retired officials consulting for ESPN and Fox can't agree on this play....

I took a look at this again and I can't side with those who say nothing should've been called. I've seen refs call it for way less or even invisible contact.
