NFL 2013 Season

The old Saturday games were perfect- players got 6-7 days off (some teams played on Saturday back-to-back weeks- 2003 SB champ Pats last 2 reg. season games), nobody seemed to mind.

This is too much of a good thing

Personally I think TNF is over saturation... I rarely get a chance to watch

Not me,I would love it if there were more national games. As an Eagles fan only 2 out of 16 games will be broadcast in my area. Not too mention the fact, there is hardly anything on tv that appeals to me on Thursday night.

If you went to 18 games with players only allowed to play 16 then most teams would wait for the final 2 games to rest their starters I think.

18 game season over 20 - 22 weeks. no player will play more than 16 games in a season and no more than 7 games in a row on his teams schedule.

IF, that become a rule, Goodell has officially ruined the NFL.

Do you really want to see the back up QB playing in what could be a big game, what about injuries, then your down to your 3rd string QB or other position players ?

i thought 14 games were enough, but 18 games and TNF are going to both happen imo.
so come up with a better plan.

Better plan ?

Tell the NFL to quit being so GREEDY ... they are only trying to do this so they can make more money by playing more games.

Keep it at 16 games, thats plenty, 14 was better.

You already get games towards the end of the season that teams are taking off, they don't mean anything, now your gonna add 2 more games that potentially don't mean anything, unless your still battling for a playoff spot.

So with 14 games this didn't happen?

Like I said before Jim, let's see how far they can push without F*****g things up. Too much greed always leads to failure so we'll see what happens. Eventually Goodell will push pass the point of no return and F*** up our favorite sport. Goodell or whomever is at the helm the moment it happens.

Looking at the actual data, adding 2 more games last year would have been 2 more weeks of amazing football with almost every seeded position up for grabs in both conferences. The only team in the NFC that could rest players for 2 games would be the Falcons, who lost week 17 last year going into their playoff bye and then the margin of victory/defeat in their 2 playoff games was a total of 5 points. A pretty solid case could be made against resting people and losing momentum after a 13-3 season. Even the games that are meaningless late in the season are a big deal because they're against division rivals (best move the NFL has made scheduling-wise since I became a fan). Re-seed teams by record once the season concludes and there will be even fewer teams resting.

Much of this repeats glancing at the data with half the league +/- a few teams alive for just 6 playoff spots per conference every season. Adding another wildcard team per conference would have about a third of the remaining teams still in the race with 2 to go. Would be happy to see a rebuttal but I suspect your objection is based on an anecdotal observation?

This is all about money. This has nothing to do with fans or players. They enjoy the government tax exemption. For as much as I love football, their greediness with be their down fall.

Of course :)

Patriots/Jets, Cowboys/Eagles, Ravens/Steelers, Peyton's return to Indy, Bengals/Lions in a battle of 4-2 teams, Browns/Packers- WHAT A GREAT SLATE OF SUNDAY GAMES!

I agree this is all about the money. That's why I'm predicting that Directv will not renew their Sunday Ticket contract because they will not agree to what the NFL wants and Goodell won't back down on any demands. Directv already pays $700 million per year and they only have about 10% of their subscribing to it. Not a good return on investment for Directv so why should they pay more? Instead, I wouldn't be surprised to see Tuesday Night Football and Wedsnesday Night football on Fox Sports 1 and NBC Sports Network. You figure if Goodell can squeeze another $500 million each from NBC and Fox that's $300 million more per year than what the NFL is getting from Directv. I don't know if they would agree to that but Fox and NBC do want more content for their sports channels and I think $500 million each is a VERY CONSERATIVE estimate considering what ESPN is paying for MNF. That's my whole analysis on it. I know not everyone will agree with me but I honestly think that's where we're headed when 2015 rolls arounds.

If that happens you'll see the ST numbers start to decline, seeing the value keeps dropping with each extra night of Football becoming used the ST has less and less games in it.
In the beginning of the ST, all games were on it except for the MNF games, they have removed the Sunday night and Thursday night games from the package, now they want a Full season on Thursday, devaluing it even more, if they add another night, D* would be stupid to keep paying more and more for exclusivity , seeing at that point its no longer exclusive to them.

You're misunderstanding me Jimbo. I'm not saying that the NFL will offer Tuesday or Wednesday night football first and let ST get devalued. I'm saying the NFL will the ST contract expire after the 2014 season FIRST because Directv will not renew it and none of the other TV providers will buy it due to the high price that the NFL wants. After the ST contract expires and no longer be offered, that's when the NFL will try to squeeze some more money from Fox, NBC, and even CBS (although CBS doesn't invest a lot in their sports network like the other two) to get more games nationally televised on their cable sports networks. On the RARE chance that doesn't work out, the NFL would then negotiate ST at a lower price with either Directv or another provider and keep the current status quo on all the other TV contracts.
