Very true Iceberg.I would love to see the stats on the new OT rules of who won and,did they get the ball first.Still if I were a coach and my teams D was good to above average I would defer. If you have a good kicker he can kick it beyond the endzone for an auto touch back. You get a 3 and out your going to get good field position and only needing 3 to win.
If you defer and give up a TD, game over. That's why under the current format you won't see NFL teams that win the toss deferring like the NCAA does.

Once the stats come out for this seasons new ot rules I think there will be some coaches change their minds about deferring.I know at least 2 of the ot games I watched might have been 3,the team that received the ball first lost.

NBC execs must be doing cartwheels to get a winner takes the division scenario for it's SNF finale. Not only is it for the division, but they get the very ratings friendly Cowboys going up against one of the most exciting rookies to come along in years!

IMO, that's purely coincidental. If a coach defers with the current OT rules, that could very well cost him his job.................and rightfully so.

As well as the Cowboy haters tuning in ...

Here's some stats through week 12. I don't think there will be a lot of minds changed, except maybe yours.... ;)

There have been 17 overtime games this year, through 12 weeks of play—a very small sample size compared to the hundreds of overtime games played under the old rules. The teams who have received the ball first have won 11 of these 17, lost five, and tied one, for a winning percentage of 0.676. This rate seems unsustainably high—an increase from before the rule change—and likely to come down in the ensuing weeks and seasons. Still, it appears the team that wins the coin toss continues to possess a marked advantage.

Salary cap next season tentatively $121m, up from 120.6 this year, which was barely an increase over 2011's 120.375m.

Any teams or fans counting on a ballooning cap due to new TV deals may be in for some painful off season moves.

So the 2-13 Chiefs have 5 players selected to the Pro Bowl. The 4-11 Raiders have none, and went 2-0 against the Chiefs. Pro Bowler RB Jammal Charles, had 1440+ yards against the rest of the league... Only 14 yards on 14 rushes against the Raiders.

The refs must have Pro Bowl votes. ;)

What does the above have to do with anything? Which Raiders were snubbed and how?

Now is the time of year fans forget they aren't the only ones who voted for these guys.

It has EVERYTHING to do with football....like this thread. Do you think anyone outside of Charles deserve it? And if so, why? As far as the Raiders, I am a realist and think no one other than Seabass, who was perfect under 50+ yards(27-27...and his only misses were 51, 62 and 64 yards) deserves to go.
