Here's some stats through week 12. I don't think there will be a lot of minds changed, except maybe yours....

I actually read that,I wasn't going to share a link cause I knew you would say I told ya so.
Whats really ironic is,the winning percentage of the team that takes the ball first is actually higher than with the old ot rules.
But,just for arguments sake,wouldn't it be fun to see a team defer just once?

Oakland kicker Sebastian Janikowski is having a monster season. He was 31-of-34 on field goal attempts, but his shortest miss was form 51 yards. Cleveland’s Phil Dawson is 28-of-29 and is a fine kicker. But Janikowski is a next-level weapon as a kicker. Oakland tight end Brandon Myers has had a big season and should have made it. San Diego safety Eric Weddle was outstanding. He has a beef..."

Many make it on Rep each year, happens in baseball as well.
Thing is, while some make it on Rep, others don't get the call because thier efforts are expected, if they don't do better than expected, they get passed over.
Janakowski has a typical year for him, he's always been a weapon for the Raiders, how many time has he been passed over because of his expected reputation, results are what is Expected yearly .
M Cabrera has that same problem, always typically GREAT numbers year in and year out and he just now won the MVP.
It has EVERYTHING to do with football....like this thread.
The Chiefs and Raiders records have nothing to do with the Pro Bowl, nor does Charles' bad games against Oakland.
There are 4 maybe 5 more Chiefs players than I expected on the Pro Bowl roster. If anyone earned a spot, I hope to see Justin Houston make it as injuries/Super Bowl substitutions start to promote alternates.
What's the difference between a popularity contest among coaches and players and voting for people because you've had to gameplan around them in the last year or two and respecting their ability as a result? It's not like only the teams you play see film on these guys. You play the Steelers one week and the Chiefs prepare for the Raiders, guess what film the Chiefs players are going to see a lot of... the Steelers.
The popularity contest stuff is so just ignorant and overrused, just a bunch of fans crying because of some perceived slight.
All things being equal, which they more or less are between Dawson and Janikowski, things are going to go to the 37 year old legend who's missed once all year. Meanwhile I'd be surprised if Janikowski is even on the team next year.
MLB is even worse in that it has a rule where at least one player per team is sent, don't they? I only watch baseball as they approach the elimination games in the World Series.

So which is it, a popularity contest or voting for buddies? Only where those two things line up are where that would impact voting, since each group only has 1/3 of the vote. So yeah, ignorant and overrused is still pretty accurate assessment IMO.
It's just not so black and white, there's a lot of flaws with this setup (FS/SS voting, pro bowl is a 4-3 alignment, so 3-4 linebackers getting all the gaudy stats have an advantage, etc) and that's one of them, but it's not as open and shut 'oh, popularity contest' as most fans currently crying foul make it sound like. Fans, coaches, and players voted for these guys to get them here, for a variety of reasons, not all of them available to be listed in a stat line.
For the All Star Game they require all teams being represented .... yes, it's outdated, but then so is the fact that the ASG determines the HFA for the WS, instead of the team with the best record.....
I hate that too, but wasn't that just recently implemented in the last few years? I wouldn't call it outdated...just a piss-poor policy.
When the fans vote, it IS a popularity contest because fans don't go on game film..as you stated. And when a player has a subpar year, and is going more on notoriety than on performance...does not make it AGAIN a popularity contest?

You're barking up the wrong tree, your gripe should be with the players and coaches who have more say than the fans.

So Lions fans - was listening to talk radio tonight and they were talking about Black Monday, said Schwartz was one that should be fired but the Fords won't do it cuz they're too cheap.

Schwartz is merely a symptom. The root-cause is a cancer growing for the past 50-years in the heart and mind of the organization in the form of the Ford Family. Doing something about Schwartz is akin to an emergency room triage staff applying a band-aid to a paper cut while completely ignoring the victim's sucking chest wound.
Every day is prefixed with the word black when you're a Lions fan: Black Monday, Black Tuesday, Black Wednesday, Black Thursday, Black Friday, Black Saturday and, last but not least painful, Beaten Black & Blue Sunday.

I don't have a problem with Schwartz, need better players.
Unless they have someone available better than Schwartz, he should stay.
