NFL 2009-10 Season

The Orange & Brown Report

I must say, I am quite impressed and proud of the way the Browns are playing lately. And while the record may not scream success, I do see signs of improvement and the new system planting it's roots.

The turning point came during week 11 against Detroit. We didn't win the game, but lost by 1 in the final seconds. Our offense had a coming out party that day. Now, I do realize it was Detroit and at the time I didn't get overly excited, but I have seen glimmers of that same great offense as seen during Week 11 rear it's head again in the following weeks.

In Week 12 against the Bengals we lost, but the final score was 16-7. The Browns defense held Carson Palmer to the 4th fewest passing yards of his career (110).

In Week 13 we lost another close one, this time to the mighty Chargers by a score of 30-23. This was the first week we played without the malcontent, Jamal Lewis who was placed on the IR, ending his career, but paving the way for his hungry backups. Week 13 gave more playing time to players with heart, including Josh Cribbs and Jerome Harrison. Even in a loss, the optimism on offense was a sign of things to come.

Week 14 was this team's signature win against Pittsburgh. We dominated the Steelers in every facet of the game. The result was a 13-6 win.

Week 15 was a trap game. Coming off a huge and very emotional win against a rival, it would've been easy to overlook the Chiefs. Instead, the team again played with heart. Jerome Harrison and Josh Cribbs set NFL records en route to their 2nd consecutive win by the score of 41-34.

To finish the season, we have Oakland and Jacksonville, both at home. To start the season 1-11. it would've been very easy to mail-it-in. The season was lost, a new regime change has and still is being rumored. There is plenty of distraction and more injuries than I can remember any recent team suffering, yet the oft criticized Eric Mangini still has this team focused and playing well to close out the season.

I am to the point where I actually want Eric Mangini to stay another year and possibly beyond. He has a plan in place and I see it starting to bloom. Obviously we are still a ways off. I'm not predicting playoffs in the near future, but I do want to see a coach stay here long enough to have his system develop and acquire the players he needs. Rome wasn't built in a day you know. Rebuilding takes time, but I'm starting to see the foundation that is being erected. It'd be a shame if he wouldn't be allowed to finish what he's worked so hard in building.

Go Browns.
Go Maningi.
Holmgrem for GM, but not for Head Coach.
Pay Josh Cribbs.

This is the final season for football at Giants Stadium.

Sandra probably shed a few tears when the original Yankee Stadium closed- will she get misty-eyed when the J-E-T-S leave the Meadowlands?

Jet fans do not care about the closing of GIANTS stadium...

What Josh Cribbs is doing is amazing, and for the most part nobody even knows who he is. They will.

Sandra

This interview was following the Pittsburgh game, but it is VERY inciteful to who Josh Cribbs actually is.

His response to Deion Sanders bating him into seeking a more lucrative contract brought the panel of NFL Network hosts to a standing ovation! Josh Cribbs defines what it is to be a true sportsman and I feel very grateful in having him to root for on my team....

Didn't the Jets play in Shea Stadium at one time?

Yes and it was such a dump the Jets left something like 20 years before the Mets did. There was much recent talk of a new domed stadium on the West Side, but Woody finally decided to stay with the Giants and join them in their new stadium.

A big domed stadium would have been nice...Super Bowl, Final Four, etc. The new Giants Stadium (or whatever they're calling it) does look like it's going to be spectacular.

Jay Cutler is worse than Rex Grossman ever was. I don't want to hear about his "weapons" Rex's were just as bad if not worse. And the Bears just guaranteed this punk 30 million? HaHa. Why do Lovie Smith, Jerry Angelo and Ron Turner still have jobs?

Repeat after me, McDaniels haters and Chicago Bear fans- "JAY CUTLER SUCKS"

Bears have no 1st or 2nd round pick this year. Great future Chicago, a Bum QB and no draft picks.

Go Browns.
Go Maningi.
Holmgrem for GM, but not for Head Coach.
Pay Josh Cribbs.
:up:up
Mangini has this team playing hard......We can finally see that there is a method behind his madness. Sadly, I think Holmgrem is going to get hired as GM and his first move is going to be to fire Mangini.

It's interesting to see that you guys want him to stay now ....

Your team is 3-11 with the potential to be 5-11 and you want the guy to stay .....

If they go 5-11 next year ..... are you still happy and will you still want him around and if you start out poorly ?

Why do you say s*** like this about the colts every season? They know how to come from behind and win close games.I don't see how that has to do with any "luck". Will it contribute to a probable early exit from the playoffs? Could be but to say its mostly luck is one of the dumbest things I've heard this season.

Just one of many to come from that keyboard.....

WOW!!!! Amazing....this team for a 2nd straight year, they have gone into Denver and KILLED the Broncos playoff hopes!!

....The Raiders have almost the same wins as last year...with ALL the injuries, a TOUGHER schedule than last year and TERRIBLE all around QB play.....

...WOW!

Let's see how long we can hold Scheffler down so the Broncos can't get a kick off.........what a crock, an no call!

The Broncos had many opportunities to shut that game down, and just did not do it. It was pathetic.

And you haven't killed off anything, WE control our destiny. If we win 1 or two more we're in. We should have beaten a sorry team like Oakland and didn't get the job done.

JAMARCUS IS GOD!!!!!
:confused: it's the least he can do after being over paid!!!!! it's not like he looked that great either. slow your row. the day salsa says he's god then i'll believe it! when he first came in the game you can tell not even his own teammates were thrilled. A GOD???:confused::confused:!sadroll

What was the method behind the madness? Stick with DA for way too long after giving Quinn no chance to prove himself, and run Jamal Lewis into the ground so you could IR him and hope the guys behind him can make a move?

A win is a win, but your defense still gave up 300 yards passing (Cassel's first as a Chief) and 150 yards on the ground, this is being overshadowed by Harrison's performance, but you won't win many games allowing that much.

Like I said in the Oakland thread, don't let a win or two change your mind about what needs to change in Cleveland.

In related news, Kokinis has filed for arbitration to get $4m from the Browns.

Anyone believe in jinxes? Bengals have not yet clinched a playoff berth, but in to entice people to come to the Chiefs game this weekend they are offering to let people 'lock in' playoff tickets for the 2 home games they MAY host in the playoffs. Of course you have to buy all 3 tickets right then and there, and refunds (without interest) will be available should the Bengals not make it.

last week i was pretty sure about some of the teams especially in the NFC. but after this weekend i'm not so sure about the vikings. lost some confidence in the saints. the dallas game plan was very similar to the game plan we used against the saints here in miami earlier in the season. the cowboys were able to execute the game plan better by sticking with it till the end of the game. they also have more talent than miami. on the AFC side we know the chargers are hot and the colts do appear to have some vulnerabilities that may cost them! until this weekend i was sure that the best teams in the AFC could not compete with the best in the NFC. now i'm not so sure. teams like the eagles are looking better and better. if the cowboys can play like they did on SAT the rest of the way, they will be a problem for the other teams in the playoffs. Arizona is too inconsistent. the vikings looked bad last night and the saints showed some major weaknesses on the defensive side of the ball. point is it all looks cloudy right now :D the AFC couldn't be any tighter! for now I like the chargers to go all the way. not sure about the NFC at the moment.

Its not the coach, its the half assed offense.
Thats whats wrong with the Browns.
Beside Cribbs and Harrison, that offense is really baaaaaad...they are teh suck.
Sorry but a head coach can't change a team if their players just suck bad.
Brady Quinn was all hype.
