NFL 2008-09 Season

If Brady's out for the year then the Patriots are going to really be sorry they lost the SB last year. What is it with SB runners up getting jinxed the next year?

I STILL don't buy the Cowboys act-not yet- not until they prove it in the playoffs.

Weren't we all saying the same thing about the Colts prior to their Super Bowl win (The two playoff losses to the Pats and the stunning loss to Pittsburgh) or the 49ers during the 1992 and 1993 seasons?

BTW, not a fan of the Cowboys, but I see some similarities.

They said during the Patriots game today, that the last SB runner-up that won the next season's SB was the 1972 Dolphins. That's a longggggggg time ago.

I don't buy the Colts comparison, mainly because they lost to a better Patriots team AND at least they had some postseason success: blowing out Denver twice and winning in Kansas City.

Bill: How confident are you in Matt Cassel?

Hey risnuff,
good to hear from you, great game for your Steelers today. :up

Honestly, I'm not overly confident in Matt Cassell. He did well today, but I don't feel like he's the long term answer.........I hope I'm wrong. The Patriots with Cassell might be good enough to win 8, maybe 9 games. However, with Cassell as QB (and I think I'm stating the obvious) the Patriots are no longer a Super Bowl threat.

STUNNING win by the Steelers ???
It should have been worse ....

Bill,
You've already got your QB on the staff .....
You QB coach can come in and save the day and he's won a SB already .....

Yes, I would feel better for the Pats chances if Trent Dilfer came out of retirement to play this year :)
Think about it, he already knows the playbook and all the calls.

Bill, words of encouragement regarding Brady. (First off, I can't imagine the feeling of losing your starting QB in the first week. Huge loss to NE and the NFL).

-1999: Trent Green suffered a season ending injury in preseason. Unknown ex-grocery shelf stocker by the name of Kurt Warner stepped in and led the Rams to win Super Bowl XXXIV.

-2001: Drew Bledsoe was hurt and a #199th compensatory draft pick, by the name of Tom Brady was thrust into the starting role. The Pats went on to win Super Bowl XXXVI.

Maybe this serves as motivation that the season isn't completely lost....

Thanks for the encouraging words, but in no way do I expect to catch lightning in a bottle again. The Patriots are not suddenly a 4-12 team because of the Brady injury, they still have a lot of talent on both sides of the ball. They can still win nine games maybe, but they're just not a championship-caliber team any more.

Well, the Bears saved the biggest surprise of opening weekend for last, they were clearly more physical. Payton Manning was out of sync but Colts looked slow.
The Bears seem to be following a pattern of teams today, run the ball with timely passing. Hopefully the more pass oriented teams get it together.

What's with the crowd at the Colts' game? I guess they will find out that you have to make more noise when the roof is open. They couldn't even make enough noise to distract the Bears' offense.

And not that this is right or wrong, but there was no booing whatsoever. I can't think of another single NFL team, if they had the recent track record that the Colts have had, that would not have been booed out of their stadium after a performance like that.
