NFL 2008-09 Season

I look for Chad Henne to be the Dolphins QB before the end of the season.

DAVIE, Fla. -- It's official. Chad Pennington is the Miami Dolphins' starting quarterback.
Dolphins coach Tony Sparano said Monday that Pennington will start the Sept. 7 season opener in Miami against his former team, the New York Jets.
Pennington was the face of the Jets the past eight seasons and arrived in camp this year competing with Kellen Clemens for the starting job. The Jets cut Pennington more than two weeks ago to clear salary cap space once they got Brett Favre from Green Bay.
Pennington ranks first in NFL history among quarterbacks with at least 1,500 attempts with a 65.6 completion percentage.

3 Teams Make Offer to Ty Law

According to Gil Brandt of Sirius radio, 3 teams have extended Ty Law an offer:

New York Jets (Eric Mangini; former coach)
New England Patriots (Bill Belichick; former coach)
Cleveland Browns (Romeo Crennel; former coach)

It'll be interesting to see who he picks. The Browns have been in contact with him for a while. He's wants to be a starter and demands more money ($5 million yr.), which is why he hasn't been a Brown long before this.

I'd definitely like to see him here. Right now there is a gaping hole in our secondary. Plus Law can teach our two sophomore corners a thing or two. Perfect fit IMO.

I would love to have Ty back. He's one of my all-time favorite Patriots. IMO, Ty should have been MVP of Super Bowl XXXVI (the Rams upset).

With the Giants defense in a bit of a bind (Osi out, Strahan likely to not come back),

I will now predict a 9-7 season.

Their offense will have to be productive, though.

Unless Tuck has a HUGE season ala Haynesworth did last year, I think their defense will be sapped a bit.

IMO, the Giants that looked dominant for a period of time against Cleveland in their preseason game- I don't think we'll see them on Monday Night in Cleveland.

Same here. Their defense just took too big a hit, IMHO. It's a shame too, I hate to see a team defending their championship start out like this. I agree with Sabres, 9-7 for the Giants and third place behind the 'Boys and Eagles.

Can I now predict Cleveland will potentially pulverize the Giants in their Monday Night game- only this one will COUNT and Cleveland will have EVERYONE healthy.

Sabres, let's not make any bold predictions just yet. The Giants game is 5 weeks into the season. A lot can change before then. I do like that we are at home for that game though. The crowd should be all revved up for that one!

I got the NFL Preview edition of Sports Illustrated.

They really have some things screwed up:

S.I. has the Eagles reaching the SB, Cleveland going 7-9, the Saints at 8-8, Carolina at 9-7, and Arizona going 6-10.

OTOH, they have the Vikings going 13-3 and the Falcons 2-14.

The Vikings going 13-3 may be a stretch, but I am high on them this year. With Peterson and that solid D, if they get anything at all out of Tavaris Jackson, they could be Tampa bound.

NFL suspends Vikings tackle McKinnie for four gamesAug. 29, 2008

MINNEAPOLIS -- The NFL suspended Minnesota left tackle Bryant McKinnie for four games without pay Friday for violating the league's personal conduct policy, a blow to the protection of Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson's blind side.

McKinnie has pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from a street brawl outside a Miami nightclub in February. He will be eligible to return to the Vikings' active roster following the team's Sept. 28 game against Tennessee/
McKinnie will miss games against Green Bay, Indianapolis and Carolina. That means potential matchups against premier pass rushers Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila (Packers), Dwight Freeney (Colts) and Julius Peppers (Panthers).
Seven-year veteran Artis Hicks, who was Minnesota's starter at right guard for 1 1/2 seasons before being unseated by Anthony Herrera, is expected to fill in at left tackle for McKinnie. Though McKinnie's performance has been up and down, the Vikings' first-round draft pick in 2002 has not missed a start since ending a holdout midway through his rookie year. That's 87 straight games.
Jackson remains a question mark at quarterback, and - though coach Brad Childress has said repeatedly over the past few months he couldn't be concerned about the possibility of punishment for McKinnie - this was a discouraging development for this team 10 days before the season opener.
McKinnie signed a seven-year, $48.5 million contract extension, including more than $17 million in guaranteed money, in September 2006. The Vikings did not practice Friday and had no comment. Telephone messages left by The Associated Press for McKinnie's attorney, Larry Kerr, and agent, Ben Dogra, were not immediately returned. This is bad news for the Vikings, who I like a LOT this year!
