NFL 2008-09 Season

How is it that the Denver Broncos or San Diego Chargers will win the AFC West with an 8-8 record, yet NOBODY bashes them.

How come one bad division winner is getting disrespected, yet the OTHER bad division winner is NOT getting bashed?

This reeks of hypocrisy!

Denver also got bitch-slapped by the Pats, yet they get off scot-free?!

Denver sucks too. They probably don't get bashed as much because nobody on here is trying to argue that they are a dynasty in the making. The Chargers, OTOH, are much better than their record. Nobody has had as many bad beats as SD. If these guys didn't have bad luck they'd have no luck at all. The Chargers should be a 10 win team so I look past their record a bit. You can't do that with Arizona though. When they lose it's a rout like today.

I agree that the chargers nor the broncos deserve to make it to the playoffs just like arizona but what's making the cardinals look bad right now is that they're not showing up to play in the games after wrapping up their division. It's totally unprofessional. It shows everyone the character of this team.

I understand that the system makes winning in your division important if you want to make the playoffs but seeing an 11-5 team replaced by an 8-8 team for the playoffs stinks.

I am not defending that an 8-8 team will make the playoffs, but whether it's liked or not, whether it's be default or not, they STILL won their division. Look at the NY Jets, they can BEAT the Dolphins next week, have a 5-1 division record...and STILL NOT MAKE the playoffs. I hate the stinkin' JETS AND that stinks big time, but it IS what it is.

I cannot believe I will say this because I hate the Broncos....but do not be surprised that they win a game or two in the playoffs. AS WELL as the Chargers if they make it. AND IF the Chargers makes it, they will be VERY dangerous in the playoffs.

I'm probably the biggest Bolts fan on this board (maybe the ONLY Bolts fan :)), and I don't give them the respect that you do.

Yeah, they have some good wins (Pats, Bucs) and some hard luck (really bad call by Ed Hochuli in the Denver game), but even some of their wins are bad wins (2 wins over KC by a total of 2 points).

On the bright side, they broke the West Coast team traveling East for the early game curse yesterday.

I expect them to get even with Denver at home and make the playoffs, but they won't last long.

3. HD MM, I hope you don't have a heart attack ranting about the Browns/Bengals game.

I've lost all emotion towards this team after the week 12 loss against Houston. This was the week the Mighty Quinn got pulled and subsequently ended up on the IR after trying to play with a broken finger. The team quit that day. After the game I had a meltdown and said they wouldn't win another game this season.

5 games later we are not only winless, but we haven't scored an offensive TD in ANY of those games!!!

As Pink Floyd says, "I have become comfortably numb".

...
If Denver wins (and I doubt they will), they'll have a 9-7 record. Still, nobody that lost to the Raiders or the Chiefs deserves to go to the playoffs. C'mon, Bolts!

4 TD's for DeAngelo Williams! Can we PLEASE drop Clinton Portis from the Pro Bowl? What does a guy have to do to earn some respect?

DeAngelo is sure a having a breakout 2nd half. Where has this guy been the last 2.5 years!?

First 8 weeks Williams averaged 65 yards rushing and had only 3 rushing TD's.

Weeks 8-16, Williams has averaged 101 yards and has 15 rushing TD's.

The Chargers can also thank the refs in their first couple of games for handing them losses. SD should have won this outright already.

Monday Morning QB with HD MM. Week 16 Version.

1. The Arizona Cardinals will host their first playoff game in 61 years. And the excitement comes to a screeching halt right there.

2. Speaking of the Cards, they didn't stand a chance in Foxboro, especially with all that snow and cold. Sure their efforts were enough to win the lowly NFC West, but when this team heads East of Glendale, there isn't a more sure thing in sports then for them to lose.

3. Congratulations to the Giants and Titans. Both clinch homefield throughout their respective Conference. As a result, the road to the Super Bowl will be going through Nashville and East Rutherford.

4. Win or lose, the Panthers showed they can play out of their comfort zone in Charlotte. Both teams ran the ball well, just one better than the other.

5. On a cold, blustery night in the Meadowlands, how appropriate was it that "Wind", aka Derrick Ward (rather than Earth or Fire) ran for 215 yards including 82 on the final TD drive that won the game for the Giants in OT?

6. The Steelers can blame the Big dumb Ox (Ben Roth) on losing a very important game against Tennessee. How do you fumble the ball 4 times (lost 2) and throw 2 interceptions during the biggest game of the year?! Way to go Yinzer.

7. Why is it that College Football has so much loyalty in their conferences outside of their team (especially the SEC), yet in the NFL it's the opposite? For example, I can't imagine rooting for fellow AFC North teams (Pittsburgh or Baltimore) now that my Browns are out of the playoffs. As a matter of fact, I hope both teams lose miserably! If this were the SEC, the outside team looking in would actually root for their inter-divisional rivalry team. I don't get it.

8. On a cold day in Cleveland with temperatures of -7°F, Browns fans that attended the final home game of the season got sent home with nothing for Christmas. The miserable, injury riddled offense failed to score a TD yet again. Make it 5 straight games without an offensive TD. And those fools that actually thought our 4th string QB would perform better than 3rd string Ken Dorsey? LMAO! 4th stringer, Bruce Gradkowski entered the game after Dorsey suffered a concussion and rib injuries. On the 3rd play, Gradkowski threw an interception. Thank God this season is over next week!

9. Congratulations to the Lions. First team ever to go 0-15. In related news, next week the Lions try to avoid the dubious distinction of finishing 0-16 at Green Bay, where they haven't won since 1991.

10. And now for my player of the week award! I'll have to admit, this award was completely biased, as it brought me great joy yesterday. That joy was brought on by none other than LenDale White by stomping and desecrating a terrible towel. LMAO!!! Awesome!

I know they looked bad today (If Bill were still here, he'd destroy me), but the playoffs are a different story.

In 2006, the Colts got bitch-slapped in Jacksonville, and look what happened to them.

HD MM,

Seriously man, you should consider becoming a sports writer. Your thoughts in general, and your MMQB in particular are great reading material.

Peter King has nothing on you, and I mean that with all sincerity. :)

Very impressive stuff!! :up

With all this talk about Arizona being a supposed lock for a one-and-done, I'm offering a challenge:

If Arizona WINS their playoff game, then I want to see the one thing that many of us have been clamoring to see and is less likely than a Cardinals' appearance in the NFC title game.

Care to guess what that is?

HD, after reading your MMQB,

the only thing that surprised me is that you didn't call me out about the Cards.

Let's face it- I just threw away all the hard-earned respect I got for picking Texas Tech to beat Texas when I said, on this board, that the Cardinals would win in Foxboro and that the Pats were overrated!

Oops.

Wow, thanks man. That's one of the best compliments I've heard in a while. Thank you!

I actually did go to school for print journalism, however I somehow ended up in the field of construction/engineering. Journalism is by far still my ultimate passion. Writing here quenches some of that hunger.

Sabres, you don't gain respect by picking a correct team to win. Predictable outcomes and upsets happen all the time. That's sports.

And no, I'm not going to call you out on your silly predictions. Bashing is not my style, (unless of course you're from Pittsburgh or that Evil School up North ;)).
