Those around here probably know that I put a lot of stock on whether or not the Lions have success based on the "funk" that looms over the team for the last 7 years.
This win over Chicago was key. There is a big difference as an NFL team staring at a game that puts you at 3-1 or 2-2. In seasons past as soon as the Lions hit .500 and it is early in the season like we are now... they deflate and pack it in for the year. We have not seen how they respond with this large of a gap between wins and losses when there are more wins than losses under the Millen regime, so we will be seeing something new out of the Lions this year. That will either be 1) they ride this success and show that they finally got the monkey off their, (and Millen's) back. Or 2) They disappoint their fan base midway through the season rather than before week 7.
Nobody, and I mean nobody who is a Lions fan has a right to open their mouth and talk about a turn around until they get at least two wins on the road this year. I don't care if they win all of their remaining home games, this year. If they cannot win more than one road game, they are still a dookie team and Millen should be fired. The Lions as a franchise have only 12 road wins in this current decade/millennium. 5 of those road wins were in their 9-7 season in 2000, before Millen took over the team as GM. So at the current pace that means under Millen the Lions are good for 1 road win a year. No successful football team has won a super bowl with a road record like that.
