Hello, brand new to FTA. I've been lurking on the forums a bit, but still feel a little lost.

I got a Fortec Ultra Lifetime receiver from ebay. On my roof I have a directv satellite (single lnb 18"), from a previous tennet. I would like to verify that the receiver works okay.

From what I understand the lnb on the directv dish is circular and would most likely be pointing at 101. Is there any way I can verify that the receiver works with this setup, I can get signal 85% on the recieve but no quality no matter what i do.

Yeah I know the real answer, get a 36" dish with a linear lnb. In due time, in due time.

Thanks!
Matt

A FTA receiver will not detect the DirecTV satellites since they use another format (DSS), which was created before the DVB format became a standard.

The only way for you to test anything would be to realign your dish to a Bell Vu Express satellite or Dish Network satellite, I recommend a Dish Network satellite since the 110 and 119 have FTA on them, Gol TV and Nasa.

Or you will have to wait for the larger dish. (Get the largest dish you can afford and are allowed to have in your area)

I'd try 119. NASA, Angel One & the audio channels are free. And once you get the larger dish, you can integrate that into the setup :)

As for the Ultra, settings would be
Standard
11250 for LNB LO
leave the rest set to "off"

If you do select 119, scroll to a H transponder. The first 5 TP's on 119 are spotbeams and most of the country cant see them.

The TP's that are spotbeams on Echostar 7 119W are 1, 3, 5, 7, 9.

I meant the MPEG4 channels on the Ka band.

Are any of the DirecTV satellites on the Ku band using QPSK?

Not that I know of. 101, 110, 119 use 20000 SR DSS. Some tuners will show them have quality from 0-70-0-70-0, type deal. Some tuners will lock them but will not scan them. Then a few will lock and tune them.
