New Wireless Joey Info!!!

I just got back from installing mine. So incredibly simple. Only took about 45 minutes for the whole thing and that includes calling to activate it. I could tell the CSR was a little confused how to handle it because he kept going on hold, I'm assuming to ask questions. He did a good job though and was able to get my Wireless Joey activated right away and swapped out with my regular Joey.
WOW, great, thanks for the info. My Wireless Joey will not get delivered till around 18:00 so I will install tonite.

You'll be surprised with how simple it really is.

1. Connect WAP to the Hopper or HIC with the supplied ethernet cable. Then plug in the power cord. Software will be downloaded within 4 minutes
2. Once the WAP software is downloaded you can hook up the Wireless Joey. Just hook the HDMI cable up and plug in the power.
3. When the picture pops up on screen hit the select button on the Joey and it will begin searching for the WAP.
4. Go to the WAP and press the WPS button on the front. The light will flash for a minute or so until it connects to the Joey.
5. Once they connect then the setup wizard comes on the screen and goes through the download and remote pairing process.
6. When those steps are done it's time to call Dish and activate it.
7. Enjoy!

I wonder why in the Getting Started Guide the very first step on page 5 says to call DISH and give them the CAID and smart card numbers and they then authorize the Wireless Joey. Step 2 and the rest of the installation is connecting the hardware and setting up the WAP and Wireless Joey. I like the way you did it, get the equipment fully connected up, let the setup wizard do the download thing, remote pairing process, and then call DISH to authorize.

Does anyone know what model number of the Wireless Joey is? Like the HWS is XiP913 and the original Joey is XiP110. Where do those model numbers come from? Someone posted it one time, but I forgot. Something to with EchoStar or something.

Be sure and keep us posted! You might want to utilize DIRT on the activation so you know for sure that your credits won't be affected.

It might be on the label on the receiver, if they still use those old model numbers. XiP was just the name they came up with before they started the whole Hopper thing.

OK, I might if I see any on line.

I'm receiving the credits for grandfathered Hopper customers and I haven't seen any adjustments to my bill nor did the rep say there would be. I'm not very concerned because I doubt it would happen and if it did I'd be all over Dish's butt to get them back.

You could be all over their butt all you want, but once they're gone, they're gone. I remember a fellow forum member, he wasn't able to respond to an audit in time. They shut off all his receivers. When he called, they turned everything back on, but the credits were gone forever.

I'm not trying to fear-monger, just saying, it's a good idea to check into these things, do what you can to prevent problems, rather than hoping there won't be any problems, then getting upset when $195 worth of credits disappear.

PS likely any workorder created on the account will lose your grandfather superstations. This includes adding and or changing equipment.

To clarify, I am not saying that you will absolutely lose your superstations. Dish uses two systems for their account activity. One is called CSG, the other is called Promo. Promo is what every agent you speak with uses. CSG is the back system that controls any and everything dish related, for a higher office. In promo, any change whatsoever, that gets saved(we called it finish and review), would create and close a work order. This includes adding, changing, removing programming and equipment. If they have worked a system where the system will not use an equipment change as the type of work order that will give up grandfathered programming, then cool. If this is a possibility, then it would be done, most likely in CSG. Since that system can have manual changes in it that the auto system(promo) wont do. Dirt does not have access to CSG, but those higher offices, I mentioned, may have a close tie with them. Especially since they are all based out of Co. I hope that breaks down the "work order" portion of this conversation.

Can anyone explain this then? Now this is talking about grandfathered programming, but, by the sounds of it, any changes whatsoever creates a new work order. I would think a new work order would not include any "grandfather" credits, either.

The Joey authorization is on the Hopper, so there is no need to wait for the Joey to be up and ready. As long as the Hopper is pushing video, you can activate the wireless joeys.

On a new install with a fresh Hopper, you would have to wait to activate everything until Hopper reached its activation step in the install wizard. At that point you activate the wireless joey along with the Hopper

So we don't have to call DISH or DIRT to authorize?

Yes you have to activate, but what I'm saying is, you don't have to wait for the wireless joey to finish it's download install process. You can call to authorize while it's finishing. Unlike the Hopper, you need to wait for the install wizard to reach the activation step before you can activate it.

On page 5 of the Getting Started Guide it says to call DISH with the numbers to authorize before anything is connected. Is that the best way or connect everything and start the download first?

So, there are different scenarios.

New connect, new Hopper and wireless Joeys. You must wait until the Hopper reaches authorization step, then you activate everything.

Existing customer, just adding a Wireless Joey, activate it right away.

New customer with Hopper, super Joey, wireless joey. Hopper first, the sj, and once sj reaches authorization step, you activate everything.

Hopefully that's less confusing.

OK, I am going to call first and authorize before connecting anything. I will ask about losing credits too. I don't know if I will get it done tonite. My dearest is watching the Hopper I want to attach the WAP to. Won't have time tomorrow. Will be at the NASCAR Truck race at Gateway all day long. Maybe Sunday I will get her done.

WOW, I am in total shock. I called CSR and told her what I needed and she authorized the Wireless Joey. Then she took a closer look at my account and said since I am such a loyal customer and all that stuff, she gave me a six month 50% discount for my Multi-Sport, Blockbuster@Home, Heartland, and Outdoor Sports packages. She also guaranteed me I will not lose my three Hopper discounts and some other Courtesy thing I get a $10.00 monthly credit. The Courtesy thing is about to run out anyway and I don't even remember why I am getting it. I did the telephone survey when they called back and gave DISH and the CSR (used her name and employee code/number) a big That-a-Boy/Girl and then said BUT, please fix all the bugs in your SW updates. Best CSR experience I have had with DISH. Now I need to talk the wife in to letting me connect the WAP and Wireless Joey and start the download and see if I can get this thing running. Got them both in their locations and ready to connect the wires.

Well, can't get the Wireless Joey to find a Hopper. The Wireless Joey Access Point is not showing up in Whole Home Menu for some reason. All my Hoppers are in Ethernet mode. Do you think that is the problem? I went ahead and performed some more install steps. The Wireless Joey TV now says in green Connected to Wireless Access Point and the Looking for Hopper bar just keeps scrolling and scrolling. I don't want to reboot the Hopper because it is recording. Guess I will see what happens over nite.
