New Software Updates Discussion Thread

  • Server Issues.

We are very aware that there have been system issues the past few days. In troubleshooting the system, it has been determined that the issue is at our provider and is hardware related. As of 12:05 PM ET our provider has moved us to a new server.

Things seem to be running better on this new server. However in trying to diagnose the issue (before finding out it was a hardware issue) we made some system changes which we need to undo. So if you find any issues or errors please let us know in the Operations Center Forum.

Thank you for your patience! Sorry for the issue!

Oh, I missed that letter - is Dish attempting to use Linux based code on the old platform ? Compliance to TiVo lawsuit ?

Interesting take, anything is possible. The receivers on the field (P401 - P404) are getting L405, they've been using Pxx for their 5xx receivers and they're now switching to Lxx.

Two separate PIDs, '

Isn't it unusual to make this sort of change?

It's been P since the beginning, and now suddenly the switch to L.

For that matter why the distinction at all. The ones getting P are the older versions and I think anything needing the initial download/update.

L looks like the start of a normal test/rollout.

L405 doesn't show up anywhere in the Dish software chart. Must be a stealth release.

They have this in the Tech Portal but they list L405 in the title and P405 in the description.

3/10/2008: 1342 Software Version L4.05 for DP 501/508/510

Effective Tuesday, March 11th, Engineering plans to spool a PARTIAL PHASE of software version P.405 for the DP501, 508, and 510 receivers. This is primarily a non-forced maintenance release available at ALL satellite locations.

At this time P4.03 and P4.05 will be the valid software versions for the DP 501, 508, and 510 .

Like Hall, maybe the DVRs had not been updated after all:

TiVo: EchoStar Risking Contempt Proceeding

I still have P3.69. When P4.01 was released to everyone, both were "valid" and there has not been a forced update yet.

So, is P3.69 no longer "valid"? does that mean I'll be getting a forced update soon?

Has been discovered - DP422 is real model ID, while ViP222 is marketing name of it.

Same idea applied to DP642 - it was named as ViP612.

Man, how Dish like to twist lines and names. :(

P always was a production version for OpenTV models, opposite to old type with 4 digits, like 708P.
L and M using for Linux based models ( M by 2WIRE ).

2WIRE? My DSL modem/router is made by them, but what did/do they make for DIsh?

PID: 0867h, ID: 85SD, FW: P405, Model: PVR5xx.
PID=0867h
DownloadID:'85SD'
New FW:'P405'

Looks like they changed it. Must of been a typo?

"Looks like they changed it. Must of been a typo?"

That's what it looks like. Smith checked both bin files and they are the same for both PIDs. Someone made a type mistake at E*.

For notes on the software updates, we'll need Scott to post them or E* to send them to him. I haven't seen any release notes and we've had quite a few software updates this week.

Does Dish publish what was updated/new features, etc for the updates or they just sent to Scott?

Would be interesting to find designated letters in spooling FW IDs.

For sure third letter "T" means test.

There should be a sign of mandatory and not, phase spool or for all.

I just saw this in the Tech. Portal. I'm just wondering if they will finally turn on the EHD on the 211s. Team Summit is coming soon so I'm hoping this is it.
