New Software Updates Discussion Thread

  • Server Issues.

We are very aware that there have been system issues the past few days. In troubleshooting the system, it has been determined that the issue is at our provider and is hardware related. As of 12:05 PM ET our provider has moved us to a new server.

Things seem to be running better on this new server. However in trying to diagnose the issue (before finding out it was a hardware issue) we made some system changes which we need to undo. So if you find any issues or errors please let us know in the Operations Center Forum.

Thank you for your patience! Sorry for the issue!

I just basically see what I post in the updates thread. They use different names for their beta software so I know they're testing. They just release it to their beta software testers, so we won't see those until they're ready to go.

OK, thanks. I sure hope they did my suggestion. It really drives me crazy the way it is now.

I got a problem with the L4.66.

You guys know that feature where if you're in the middle of recording something, you can choose "Start Over" to playback from the beginning of the recording.

Since this morning when L4.66 was downloaded to my 625 that feature does not work anymore. My DVR freezes for a few seconds and worse yet it cuts out a bit of the recording.

I'm pretty sure it's the software update because when I had L4.63 the first time the feature worked. Then L4.64 was put into the field and it didn't work. Then we got L4.63 again and it worked. And now that I got L4.66 it doesn't work again.

"Anybody seeing anything about this (from the Tech Depot):

6/4/2008: 1000 Software Version L5.10 for ViP 622 DVR
Effective Thursday, June 5th, Engineering plans to spool a PARTIAL PHASE of software version L5.10 for the ViP 622 DVR receiver. This is primarily a non-forced maintenance release available at ALL satellite locations.

At this time L4.49 and L5.10 will be the valid software versions for the ViP 622 DVR.

6/4/2008: 1001 Software Version L5.10 for ViP 722 DVR
Effective Thursday, June 5th, Engineering plans to spool a PARTIAL PHASE of software version L5.10 for the ViP 722 DVR receiver. This is primarily a non-forced maintenance release available at ALL satellite locations.

At this time L4.49 and L5.10 will be the valid software versions for the ViP 722 DVR."

It's supposed to go out tonight, if it spools at all. The Tech Portal has been wrong before. If it does I'll post the info tomorrow morning.

not necessarily. Technically there's no "dot" in the numbers and they try to not use the same numbers on more than one platform. So perhaps numbers 450 through 509 are allocated to something else (466 is the 522/625 for example so they wouldn't reuse that number).

Never been that way - Dish use linear version numbering for ALL receivers in one group. Explained a few times - search for "Lxxx, Mxxx, xxxP, Pxxx".

Ok, I searched. I found references to "Lxxx, Mxxx, xxxP, Pxxx", but no explanation as to how the software version #'s work.

Since the updates just went out to everyone (no ranges), I don't think they added any major fixes or improvements. Me think that they just turned on the external smard card slot on the 211s and 622s/722s.

My bootstrap is in the range but they excluded the ones that already have L449. Anything prior to L449 will get it. Basically new installs at this point.

Rumor has it this is only going out (now) to those with L448 or earlier - in other words, new installs. No confirmation so far.

To Bradtothebone,
It's not a rumor, that's what have been spooled and it's in the stream.;)

Charles this is what happened yesterday:

'L510': 'L040'- 'L448'

IRD Model: ViP622/722
List of Serial Numbers:
[2] 1-4000000000

This means that L510 went out to all receivers that have L040 to L448. Most subscribed receivers are on L449 so only new activations got the update.

Today:

'L510': 'L100'- 'L509'

IRD Model: ViP622
List of Serial Numbers:
[2] 73174765-76694571

IRD Model: ViP722
List of Serial Numbers:
[2] 83143404-84062795

This means that receivers with L100 to L509 and within those serial numbers ranges will get the update. So some receivers should be getting L510 as of last night. BTW, my 722 doesn't have it yet but my 622 does.
