New HR24 Installed

I just had a new HR24 HD DVR installed. I previously had a H20. It is working great but when I run a info & system test it fails. It says the dish needs to re-aligned but my picture looks great. I went into setup and selected Slimline 5, multisw. This is the only way it will work properly. I do not have a multiswitch, I only have one receiver. The installer had to run another coax line for the DVR. Am I selecting the correct configuration? I do get some X's on the satellites it does not see. I called Directv Tech support and they said this was normal. PLEASE HELP???? Thank you!

If connected directly to the dish LNB via two wires it needs to be set for multiswitch.

You also need two BBC adapters on the back of the receiver to receive 99/103. This may be your problem. If you need them call tech support, tell the you need 2 BBCs, and they will Fedex them to you for free.

What is your signal strengths look like on these sats: 99c, 101, 103ca, 103cb, 110, and 119 (if you have 110 & 119). This will help us figure it out.

Thanks! I do have two coax cables running from the LNB's. I have adapters connected to both incoming coax cables. I was told the new HR24 HD DVR receivers have the BBC's built in by Directv tech support.

i don't think they have the bbc's built in the hr24's

If you do not have a SWM Multswitch you have to use a b-band(bbc).

The CSRs are oblivious to the fact that you need to use the bbcs unless you have SWiM. I had to argue with one last night. I finally told here to activate the receiver and I would take it from there.

HR24 does NOT have built in BBCs. Only the HR23 does.

HR24 was primarily designed for MRV setups, which would require SWIM. So they expect that the HR24 is rarely used with non-SWIM hardware.

I think he just needs to call and get a couple BBCs.

Are you sure you were not told that the HR24 has DECA built in ?

Thats different and the HR24 DOES have that built in.

OK, thanks guys! The installer put the same exact adapter I had on my H20. Is that the correct adapters to use on the HR24? I have one adapter connected on each coax line. How can I tell if these are the correct BBC adapters? What would be the part#, Model# etc...

They are all the same, regardless of size or color. YES, I am talking about the bbcs!

Hi, I just got home from work and I do have BBC's connected to each line. Signal strengths as follows:
99c: tuner 1 - 59%
tuner 2 - 61%
101: tuner 1 - 94%
tuner 2 - 94%
103(ca): tuner 1 - 52%
tuner 2 - 54%
103(cb): tuner 1 - 53%
tuner 2 - 53%
110: tuner 1 - 78%
tuner 2 - 79%
119: tuner 1 - 96%
tuner 2 - 96%

Is this what they should be?

your signals are too low. i would tell you to peak the dish yourself but you probably wouldn't want to do that so you need to call D* for a service visit.

Tell tech support that 99 and 103 are in the 50's. They need to get an installer out to finish the job. Should be no cost as they were just there, they didnt peak your dish for the HD satellites.

Thanks for the info. I did install a dish network system before, I'll give it a shot. I bet the installer knocked the dish out of alignment when connecting the other coax line for the DVR.

so you probably know to only make minor adjustments. its incredible what two or three millimeters one way or the other does. make small adjustments and recheck.

it depends. i had to peak mine a week later after the install over 2 years ago. still perfect. i moved it myself and re-tightened all the bolts. all signals are still in the 90's and a few at 100

This is where the dithering comes in, the rest of the sats look good.
