NCAA 2013 Football Season

Does overwhelming success at one sport overshadow being crappy at the other? If not, why is Alabama listed? If so, why not Kentucky?

Well Bama has been to the NCAA tournament 6 times in basketball in the time frame listed, with one elite 8 appearance. A couple of second round pushes.

They have also won the sec regular season once, not to mention a couple of 20 win seasons that didn't make the NCAA, but did the nit, and made the NIT 5 years in the span.

In the Nit, they have made the finals twice, and made it deep a few others.

The basketball has been solid, but not elite.

Kentucky has been more or less a one sport school.

If you nade the NIT, thats nothing to brag about ...

Getting in the NCAA tournament is for the most part a cake walk if your team is at all decent. (basketball were talking here)

It's a crap list
Louisville isn't even on the list
BCS bowl win
Men's basketball national championship
College World Series

I'm not a Cardinal fan but they tore it up

They are talking over 15 year span. Louisvilles football program had 1 great season and that was last year....

And the list weighs heavy on both sports. Football and Basketball (They didnt seem to count baseball as well who does right?) So if you are say Kentucky and are an elite school in one sport but absolutely suck in the other you really get no points. But say an Alabama who is decent in basketball and elite in football, or FLA who has been great in both. (If you want to add baseball we can do that too didnt they win the WS a few years ago and they constantly go deep in the playoffs...) but anyway..

You have a team like Notre Dame who certainly has not been "elite" at any of the sports but have had fairly constant success in both. Just not making it over the big hurdle.

Generally I agree, but you have to have some way to make the comparison for this list. I am just pointing out why Bama is on it as their basketball program, while not elite, is certainly competitive.

I agree, and dont at the same time. With auto bids, every year there are more deserving (in my opinion) teams left out for teams that run their conference tourney. We have had teams with 12 win records in it before, while teams with a much better resume were left out.

Three things were used, on-field success, off-field success, and traditions.
The last 2 alone make the whole list subjective and pretty much worthless.

I won't argue against Florida & Ohio St. being at the top of the list, they've both been in several championship games in both sports during that time and have have pretty consistent success. But the rest? Texas, Oklahoma & Alabama are also-rans in Basketball. What has Wisconsin done in Football? Notre Dame, before last year, wasn't relevant, tradition is the only thing that gets them into this list.

Iowa State got ripped off bad last night...something has to be done about these refs and having calls reviewable no matter what they are by not just 1 person in a booth but at least 3 with many camera angles. The outcomes of these games mean big money for schools so there has to be more to it than just make a bad call and leave it.

Could this be the worse day of the year for games? I mean I do not see anything that draws me in with excitement aside from my own team of course. Maybe Miami vs GaTech Id love to see Miami do very well. (Makes our loss not look so bad)

Miami could very well win the ACC Coastal division. There toughest game left is against FSU whom I think will beat them. But that would still be enough to allow them to win the ACC Coastal. It will put them in the ACC title game against either Clemson or FSU whoever wins that certainly to be great shootout. Isnt it odd that we are actually looking at the ACC and saying wow they got 2 possibly 3 good teams..

I am very mixed who I wish to win between FSU and Miami. On the one hand I want FLA to go up against an undefeated FSU (assuming they beat clemson) to end the season and kick there ass.. That would be a HUGE jump for us in the rankings. Specially if FSU goes on to win the ACC. (This is assuming FLA is able to get past LSU, SCAR, and GA...). However if Miami wins it will make FLA's loss not look that bad and it will also help in the rankings.. So I guess either way the fact the ACC has a few strong teams this year will certainly help my team.

So who do we think so far is the strongest conference top to bottom this year? Normally I would say each year has been pretty clear cut with the SEC... But so far this year I think the power might lay out west with the Pac 12... It is real close. My humble conference rankings so far

1. PAC12
2. SEC
3. ACC
4. BIG 10
5. Big12

I think 1 and 2 are interchangeable and then 3 and 4 with each other at any given moment.

Hey guys,
In College Football, can you go into the end zone and come back out and be the first one to touch the football on a punt legally ?

Is what I'm thinking a NFL only rule ?

In the Minn / Mich game the punting team punted the ball down around the 3 yard line and the guy when trying to get to it to down the ball was clearly in the endzone and came back out and downed it ... no penalty , not a Touchback ?

As long as he doesn't touch it in I think that's legal.

Wow that FSU team is scary. That QB they have if he is not a Heisman front runner yet someone is not watching the right football games. Guy is a beast.

And man is Tenn starting to make this agame with GA? They are looking very sharp.

Look out, Oregon is getting beat ....

3-0, 12 minutes left in the 1st period ...
Possibly the only points the other team will score.

Went to the Rose Bowl I think the last 3 years.

This is VERY surprising ... I would have guessed that Georgia was going to BLOW Tennessee out. Not sure what I think of the Vols Uni's, but if they are playing this well, keep wearing them.

I acutally like the uniforms.. And In GAs defense they have lost like there 2 best receivers and there 2 best running backs so there offense is severely hurt and crippled.

But to give credit to Tenn they are playing on point.

GA's defense is certainly in question the only thing that has kept them around is that offense. They were playing like an old pac 12 or big 12 team. all offense no defense. So with there offense crippled Tenn gets to pick apart a weaker defense.
