NBA Lockout thread

Well...more so the fact that he thought of THE GAME 1st when he stated in public that the owners colluded against the players. Ironically, one of the "Great Lakes Crew" or whatever they called them to oust him is the current commissioner of baseball. And you can see the wonderful job HE has done....

I'm not the biggest Selig fan...I don't love him or hate him...there are some facts.

Part of the job Selig has done is that TV revenue, franchise value, and player salaries have all increased ridiculously since Vincent was in office. ;)

You have no clue what the lockout is about do you? The players have not lied because they liked the status quo.

Please, show me WHERE the players "lied"?

Reading Comprehension my friend.

I didn't say either side lied, I said both sides contend the other is lying. Owners scream there are losing untold millions, players contend they aren't.

No big deal either way.

As for status quo players can kiss that sh*t goodbye.

I really don't care how it plays out, just stated an opinion that I hope to see Stern prevail.

Would be fine with me to see the whole season canceled, only thing I would miss would be the Heat defecating in their pants again.

But that would have happened either way, regardless who was commissioner. You or I could have been commissioner and that still would have happened.

LMAO! The owners never contended they players are lying. Again, apparently you have not followed anything that has to do with the work stoppage. Players have only stated to 'prove' they are losing. They have only stated, unfairly, I might add...is that they want it to stay the same.

You opinion has been duly noted. Thanks. :up

As far as the Heat "defecating in the pants".... I guess we will see. But I guess your team will be at home wishing they had a chance to "defecate" in the pants... ;):p

Me, I would like an even 50-50 split. Of course, neither side would be happy because the players would hate losing that and the owners think they are entitled too it. See, I am not into this anti-union thing that most people have. IF it weren't for unfair labor practices, there wouldn't be any labor unions to begin with.

But I think that would have happened either way, regardless who was commissioner. I think if you or I could have been commissioner and that still would have happened.

LOL you are welcome to your opinion...so much so that I inserted 'I think' into your post, and now I totally understand it's your opinion! ;)

Perhaps...perhaps not. This kind of statement has no fact, only opinion.

Fair enough. But think of it logically, do you honestly think that TV contracts were gonna be cheaper...especially during the HR crazy of Sammy, McGuirre and packed houses? I mean during those homer crazy days, the MLB was at its highest popularity because they were just coming off the previous work stoppage/holdout..

...anyway, I am going off topic...a good, interesting topic, but off topic none the less...

Back to basketball... I am wondering now if Durrant, who has been seriously considering Europe as well...will pull the trigger....

Never said they would be cheaper.

And regardless, Selig has to get credit for what happened. It's cheap, unfair, and an extreme rationalization to say with any degree of certainty 'it would have happened anyway'.

Not looking good...if progress is not made this week, regular season games will start to be cancelled. When they break through that barrier, the next barrier is saving the season.

Yeah. They stated they had made progress but not enough to be considered significant.

Because the young teams weren't going to compete anyways. The youngsters are still a year or so away. Their window is in in the future while the veteran teams are seeing the window close.

I honestly don't think that will come into play. The only thing that will come into play is people getting paid.

Reports are that the players have offered a 50-50 split to Stern....and he is just being a HUGE "richard" and has either refused to look at or wants no part of it.

I don't know about you, but willing to give in 7% of your revenue...that tells me the players are willing to deal and the owners....well...

As always, it's more complicated than this...

The bottom line is money. And one side, who had a huge disadvantage(the players at 57% of the revenue) has now conceded to give up 7% of their portion. I assure you that NO OWNER wants to either pay a hard cap nor do the owner that would go over wants to pay some of their hard earned revenue to a team that 'cannot swim with the rest of us'.

To me, it comes down to total revenue and who gives up/or gets the most....the rest is small potatos.

No owner wants a hard cap? Huh?

I think...and this is my opinion, they don't want anyone telling the how to run their team or the teams finances. They DO want more than anything, to bite into that 57% of the revenue cut the players have more than anything else.

30 owners will never agree on anything (neither will all the players), but the vast majority want a hard cap. That's probably still one of the biggest sticking points between the owners and the players.

Details of the MLB CBA that both the players and the owners agreed to...
