NBA 2008-09 Season

Other headlines in the NBA:

Portland blows out San Antonio- for a #2 seed in the West, the Spurs have looked schizo. Sometimes, they look great, while on other nights, they can also get blown out (back-to-back bad games- blown out by the Cavs and Blazers).

Houston beats the T-Wolves- do I dare say the Rockets are fine without T-Mac? Maybe getting Artest was the right decision!

Suns beat Lakers- Shaq had 33 points, and he is like a fine wine- getting better with age.

Indiana with a good win over Denver- they're a strange team as well. They are below .500 and are playing without rising star Danny Granger, but have beaten the NBA's elite teams. If they can surround Granger with good players, I smell a team on the rise.

Don't forget the Pistons beating the Celtics in Boston......avoiding a 4-0 season sweep.

Gotta give the Pistons props, they go into Orlando and Boston and win...........after losing eight in a row.

I'm impressed, but they still don't scare me- they would have to run their streak up to 5, 6, or 7 games if they want to convince themselves they're still dangerous.

IMO, the Pistons need to hope and pray they get a first-round with Orlando, a team they have owned (Cleveland, Atlanta, Miami, Boston- they'd eat Detroit alive, IMO)

To me, it's looking more and more that the Celtics will matchup with the Sixers in the first round (2 vs. 7)

That would be a sweep, IMO. IF Elton Brand were healthy, maybe they'd make the Celtics sweat- but he's not there.

I don't know about sweep, but I'd say Celtics in 5.

One thing I know for sure: I'd MUCH rather a first round matchup with the Sixers than Miami or Detroit.

Alot to talk about, in this thread, so here goes....

- Rumors of the death of Shaq's play have been GREATLY exaggerated!!! This guy AND the team has been on fire...to say the least! Shaq lit up Toronto for 45 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists in an easy win and yesterday, 33-8-4 in a win against the Lakers. Seen what happens with the give the big man the ball.

- Detroit Pistons have played well recently winning AT Orlando and AT Boston...this has not been accomplished by too many teams.

- Things cannot be good when the NBA is borrow money to help teams out, but IF this reccession is hurt THIS league, which is WORLD WIDE, imahine what it is doing to OTHER sports.

- Finally, D. Wade performance against the Knicks....what can you say, it was Wade in the Finals all over again. LIT THEM UP for 46 with 24 coming in the 4th quarter after some nothing on the Knicks team bloodied him with an elbow to the mouth and knocked down to the floor with a nasty pick. After he sent the Knicks home licking their wounds, this is what a pissed off Coach Spolstra said in the post game interview....

"I wrote up one play. I said, 'just get the F**K out of Dwyane's way."

LMAO!!! Quote of the month my friends!

Shaq never went anywhere. He was always here. The "Shaq is back" talk is funny. Doesn't anyone find it coincidental that Shaq is producing these phenominal stats while Amar'e Stoudemire and Steve Nash are injured and on the bench? With these guys out, Shaq is now an option again on the offensive end. He's old, but he's healthy. And now he's getting more looks. What he's doing doesn't surprise me at all.

How did this game not get the national treatment?.......

Cleveland @ Miami- 7:30pm EST

Should be a good game, but it wouldn't surprise me at all for Miami to steal this game. The Cavs played a tough game last night in Atlanta and may not be at full strength for tonight's action.

Joe Smith back to Cleveland? or Drew?

A reminder to all playoff bound teams...

Tonight is the NBA buyout deadline. Players must be bought out by 12 midnight EST to have a shot at being on their future teams’ playoff roster.

A few names being speculated of being bought out and among the possible available players include Joe Smith, Drew Gooden, Rasheed Wallace and Shawn Marion.

Stay tuned....

According to reports coming out of Oklahoma City, the Thunder reached an agreement to buyout the contract of forward Joe Smith allowing him to become a free agent and thus sign with any team.

Smith would be a natural choice to fill the hole left due to Ben Wallace’s injury, but things aren’t quite that simple.

Smith and Cavaliers forward Anderson Varejao share an agent in Dan Fegan. That in itself clouds the situation, according to a league source who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

With Smith back on the team Varejao would certainly lose some playing time and given the fact that he can opt out of his contract at the end of the season, Fegan is unlikely to want to see the possibility of a big payday slip away.
Smith arrived in Cleveland just before the trading deadline last season. He quickly became a team favorite and the Cavs didn’t want to part with him, but had to to get Mo Williams.

LeBron James said after Sunday’s victory over the Hawks, that he would welcome Smith back.

The 6-10 Smith averaged 6.6 points and 4.5 rebounds with the Thunder this season but has seen his playing time vanish after a trade with the New Orleans Hornets was rescinded last month.

UPDATE: Things grew complicated when the Sacramento Kings released former Cav Drew Gooden just before the deadline Sunday. The forward, who is currently has a groin injury, is another fan favorite. Could it be the Cavs will have a choice of big men should they be unable to sign Smith?

The Kings got him in a trade from the Chicago Bulls before the trading deadline. He spent almost four seasons here and averaged close to 12 points and more than eight rebounds. This season he is averaging 13.1 points and 8.7 rebounds per game.

I agree. I look for the Cavs to be a little flat tonight. They didn't land in Miami until around 6am this morning due to the snow in Atlanta. I hope they were able to catch a little sleep on the runway.

I see you guys loading up on the excuse already huh? Just incase...LOL!!:p;)

But seriously though, back to back are a bear and I too heard they landed this morning...AND it was an extra push by the league office, from what has been reporter here on a couple of radio stations.

...it Should be a great game though.....

Yep. I'm still looking forward to it. :up

Yeah, I don't get it either. ESPN is showing Villanova vs. Notre Dame NCAA Basketball and NBA-TV is showing the riveting Dallas @ Oklahoma City game.

I'm not sure, but it could be the Cavs have reached their maximum amount of national games.

I don't exactly know what that number is (20? 25? 30?), but I'm sure teams like Cleveland, LA and Boston are at or near that ceiling.
